Additional information

BRYAN G. NORTON teaches philosophy and environmental studies at New College of the University of South Florida. He has published a three-essay series on the foundations of environmental values (in ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS) and has completed a National Science Foundation study on the objectives of an endangered species policy (while visiting the Center for Philosophy and Public Policy, University of Maryland, 1981–1983). Two books have resulted from that study. Norton edited THE PRESERVATION OF SPECIES (Princeton University Press, January, 1986) and wrote THE SPICE OF LIFE: WHY PRESERVE NATURAL VARIETY? (under review). He will spend 1985–1986 as a Gilbert White Fellow at Resources for the Future, Washington, D.C., where he will write on the apparently conflicting objectives of conservationists and preservationists.
