I. Dablis - Doris.

The greek text of Vita St Theodori Syceotse, published' by Joannes Theophili in his Μνημεία άγκκίογιχά, furnishes many corrections and additions to the account of the district' round Juliopolis, givenûn my 'Historical Geography, p. 245 f. The bad latin translation given in ActaSanctorum^kpv'ûlp.Snïî., was my only authority in writing those pages; and most of the proper names in the translation are incorrect. The corrections suggested* in -Histor. Geogr:, Kinna for Kinara; Silindo-kome for Silindoconense; are justified by the greek text ; of many improvements in form of names, I mention' here only, Kca- τ-.ανών ~όλ:ς instead of Gratianopolis (necessitating correction: in· Histor. Geogr., p. 226 $ 9), Ειδικό ν instead of Euenicus, Ευκραεΐς της Λαγχντ'.νη: (false form.1 for ΐ\α.γανι*νή; ). But the formPeton· in the latin? is preferable to Πβών» in the greek : compare Petobriga.

The most important addition which the greek text furnishes, . is the statement that the inhabitants of Anastasiopolis-Lagania and of Sykeon were accustomed to visit the hot-springs of Dablis or of Apsoda (the water of the latter being good to drink): Θεραίσαι εν τοΐς-λεγο«.ένοις Δαβλίοις η είς τα, ττόσι^α τα.λεγόαενα "Αψοδχ - {Μνι\μ. άγ., ρ. 492). These two warm>springs are, therefore, the nearest and most convenient to Sykeon and Ana- stasiopolis: As tO'xVpsoda, nothing is known: the name occurs nowhere else and may be corrupt: it may probably denote the healing warm: baths mentioned by Hadji-Khalfa at I5ey- Bazar, a few. miles east of xVnastasiopolis. The hot springs called.Da- blia are;, certainly, the Ilidjabeside Jarakli : Cuinet, Turquie d'Asie, IV, p/iUOlsays: all y a près Jarakli· une source thermale sulfureuse au village d'llije (1).
