Abstract

REHG, William. LONERGAN AND HABERMAS: CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNDERSTANDING THE MORAL DOMAIN. Univ. philos. [online]. 2013, vol.30, n.60, pp.23-49. ISSN 0120-5323.

Both Lonergan and Habermas agree not only to grant reason a remarkable place in their philosophies and to develop in more radical and different ways the subjective turn of epistemology that comes from Kant, but their ideas can be cross-fertilized to give us a better understanding of the moral domain. While intentional analysis of the conscious operations argued by Lonergan clarifies Habermas' discourse ethics, the latter requires the first to radically be transformed into a second-personal ethics.

Keywords : Lonergan; Habermas; understanding; moral domain; discourse ethics.
