Geometrical Objects and Figures in Practical, Pure, and Applied Geometry.Mario Bacelar Valente - 2020 - Disputatio. Philosophical Research Bulletin 9 (15):33-51.
The purpose of this work is to address what notion of geometrical object and geometrical figure we have in different kinds of geometry: practical, pure, and applied. Also, we address the relation between geometrical objects and figures when this is possible, which is the case of pure and applied geometry. In practical geometry it turns out that there is no conception of geometrical object.

  2. Reflections on Dealing with Epistemically Vicious Students [Reflexiones Sobre Lidiar Con Estudiantes Con Vicios Epistémicos].Tuomas Manninen - 2020 - Disputatio. Philosophical Research Bulletin 9 (13).
As a philosophy instructor, I strive to get my students to think critically about the subject matter. However, over the years I have encountered many students who seem to deliberately want to avoid thinking critically. I am talking particularly about some students in my “Science and Religion” course, who subscribe to scientific creationism and endorse anti–scientific beliefs which seem to be irrational. In this essay, I will offer reflections of my experiences from these classes, and argue that individuals who subscribe (...)

  3. Democracy and Inquiry in the Post-Truth Era: A Pragmatist Solution.Daniel Labrador Montero - 2020 - Disputatio. Philosophical Research Bulletin 9 (13).
Post-truth has become a commonplace strategy. No longer are objective facts viewed as having evidentiary value; scientific knowledge is on a par with emotions or personal beliefs. We intend to show that in the context of post-truth, those proffering and receiving an assertion do not care about the truth-value of the assertion or about the best way to gather evidence concerning it. Such attitudes raise several questions about how relativism can be a corrupting influence in contemporary democracies. We will analyse (...)

  4. How to Behave Virtuously in an Irrational World [Cómo Comportarse de Forma Virtuosa En Un Mundo Irracional].Massimo Pigliucci - 2020 - Disputatio. Philosophical Research Bulletin 9 (13).
It is no secret that we inhabit an increasingly irrational world, plagued by rampant pseudoscience, science denialism, post-truths and fake news. Or perhaps, human nature being what it is, we have always lived in such a world and we are now simply more keenly aware of it because of easy and widespread access to social media. Moreover, the stakes are higher, as pseudoscience in the form of the anti-vax movement imperils the lives of many, while climate change denialism literally risks (...)

    First Philosophy and Philosophical Progress From Karl–Otto Apel's Perspective.Jesús Conill-Sancho - 2020 - Disputatio. Philosophical Research Bulletin 9 (12).
The aim of this article is, first, to show the transformation of First Philosophy from Aristotle to Apel’s transcendental hermeneutics, through Kant’s Transcendental Philosophy and the practical turn during the contemporary age. Secondly, to follow the line of Apel’s transcendental hermeneutics, that constitutes a new paradigm of First Philosophy, founded on the pragmatic and semiotic transformation of philosophy. And, thirdly, to contribute another form of First Philosophy, from the Spanish Philosophy, with the ratiovitalistic hermeneutics and/or Noology.
