  6. Grundverschieden. Immanente Und Transzendente Begründungsstrukturen Bei Hans Blumenberg.Hannes Bajohr - 2021 - Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie 46 (2).
This article periodizes the work of Hans Blumenberg on the basis of a rupture in its underlying strategies of justification and traces this rupture in Blumenberg’s theory of history, his theory of language, and his aesthetics. In all three areas, there is a shift from an immanent and historical-phenomenological to a transcendent and phenomenological-anthropological strategy of justification, which threatens to make the early and the late Blumenberg incommensurable with each other. The article argues against an overly monolithic reading of Blumenberg (...)

This paper aims to discuss the connection between the concepts of necessity and history in Hegel and Adorno. My aim is to show that Hegel and Adorno provide conceptual resources by which chance and necessity can be understood as two forms of the impossibility to form the historical process consciously. Freedom would only be conceivable where this opposition is transcended.

This essay deals with identitarian conceptions of the political and their relation to the alterity of others, which cannot be subsumed under a collective identity. To this refers the promise of political forms of life to offer everybody a secure dwelling.

Ein Gesellschaftsvertrag Für Alle. Die Universalität der Menschenrechte Nach Olympe de Gouges.Elisa Orrù - 2021 - Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie 46 (2):183-206.
The importance of French revolutionary and philosopher Olympe de Gouges as a pioneer of the women’s rights movement is generally recognised today. In contrast, the significance of her thought for practical philosophy has not yet been fully appreciated. This article aims to bring out the relevance of de Gouges’ writings for practical philosophy both historically and systematically. Drawing on her 1791 text The Rights of Women, this article compares de Gouges’ depiction of gender relationships in the private and public spheres (...)

In this article, three theses are proposed. The first is that ›force‹ and ›normativity‹ are not just two fundamental concepts in philosophy today but two paradigms: Each claims to structure how we view the world, to name what is specifically human and to determine the task of philosophy. Their confrontation repeats, according to the second thesis, the dispute between neo-Kantian normativism and life-philosophy in the 19th century, best captured by the concepts of ›life‹ and ›validity.‹ Third, the differences within this (...)

  13. Universität Als Bildungsort? Zur Perspektive Einer Wissenschaft in Humaner Verantwortung.Ursula Frost - 2021 - Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie 46 (1).
Since antiquity, enlightened humanism has been developing the project of combining education through science with science measured by education, in cooperation of humanities and sciences. To the extent that this model is abandoned, it is questionable how the ever-increasing responsibility of scientists is to be perceived as a human one. A renewed humanism should set its measure in being-with and a freedom shared with human beings, things and nature. The university as a place of education would have to reflect on (...)

The article discusses the relation between science and ›Bildung‹ by specifically inquiring into F. W. J. Schelling’s philosophy. Schelling is one of the main protagonists of the debate led around major German universities in 1800. In an exemplary way, the article consults two of Schelling’s texts: ›Vorlesungen über die Methode des akademischen Studiums‹ and his review on Immanuel Niethammers book on Philanthropism and Humanism. As a result, it becomes clear that Schelling understands science and ›Bildung‹ in a mutually enhancing relation, (...)

Especially in the late 1940s, Karl Jaspers argued in various essays for a ›renewal of the German university‹, that should follow its original ›idea‹. He combined this appeal with a critique of the university as a mass university. In the first part of my article I try to outline his position, in the second part I try to discuss it against the background of our academic situation.

The widespread introduction of accreditation procedures contradicts the centrality of freedom in research and teaching which Wilhelm von Humboldt paradigmatically supported. The logic of accreditation propagated during the last decades implies in fact a reversal of Hulmboldt’s perspective: priority is given to standardization and – not necessarily sheer – competition, which shifts the human being into a peripheral position within academic education. With regard to the reductionist anthropology presupposed by accreditation procedures, Humboldt’s Menschenbild manifests a breaking contrastivity. Humboldt in fact (...)
