    Tropes With a Kantian Flavor.Florian Boge - 2014 - Conceptus: Zeitschrift Fur Philosophie 41 (99-100).
This paper discusses one of the major problems for resemblance nominalism, posed by Bertrand Russell in 1911–12, and often referred to as Russell’s regress. It is the problem that resemblance must either be a universal, thus refuting a thorough nominalism, or must itself resemble other resemblances to count as a resemblance, which ultimately leads to an infinite regress of resemblances. I am going to discuss two solutions that have been proposed to this problem. I will then attempt to show in (...)

Types of Understanding: Their Nature and Their Relation to Knowledge.Christoph Baumberger - 2014 - Conceptus: Zeitschrift Fur Philosophie 40 (98):67-88.
What does it mean to understand something? I approach this question by comparing understanding with knowledge. Like knowledge, understanding comes, at least prima facia, in three varieties: propositional, interrogative and objectual. I argue that explanatory understanding (this being the most important form of interrogative understanding) and objectual understanding are not reducible to one another and are neither identical with, nor even a form of, the corresponding type of knowledge (nor any other type of knowledge). My discussion suggests that definitions of (...)

    What is Interpretation? A Dilemma for Davidson.Nils Kurbis - 2014 - Conceptus: Zeitschrift Fur Philosophie 40 (98):54-66.
The core idea of Davidson’s philosophy of language is that a theory of truth constructed as an empirical theory by a radical interpreter is a theory of meaning. I discuss an ambiguity that arises from Davidson's notion of interpretation: it can either be understood as the hypothetical process of constructing a theory of truth for a language or as a process that actually happens when speakers communicate. I argue that each disambiguation is problematic and does not result in a theory (...)
