Sensus Fidei Umat Katolik di Keuskupan Agung Jakarta terhadap Isu Homoseksualitas pada Tahun 2022.Albertus Adiwenanto - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (2):197-233.
Homosexuality is not easily accepted in the Catholic Church. There are at least three major schools concerning the attitude towards homosexuality based on their respective theological methodologies (scientia fidei). The first school is encapsulated in the Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986), which rejects homosexual persons and same-sex sexual relationships. The second school is put forward by John J. McNeill (1993), a moralist who embraces homosexual persons and same-sex sexual relationships. (...)

    A. MacIntyre’s Views on Animal Rationality: A Response to the Relativist Challenge.Sherel Jeevan Mendonsa - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (2):163-180.
Alasdair MacIntyre is considered one of the most prominent moral philosophers in the contemporary period. Nevertheless, some authors criticize his views on practical rationality as being relativistic. Though there have been authors who have defended MacIntyre through various arguments, none of these authors has referred to one of his later works, namely, Dependent Rational Animals: Why Human Beings Need the Virtues (DRA) for addressing the relativist challenge. The paper aims to fill this lacuna. Thus, the principal question to which the (...)

Deconstruction and Religion: Exploring Derrida’s View on Religion.Arokiaraj Joseph Patrick - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (2):181-196.
In today’s postmodern world, the idea of having absolute theories or absolute truth is rejected. This has also created a problem of how to explain religion, which is an important part of human nature. Most postmodern philosophers think there is an element of spiritual desire in each human being which is seeking the Wholly Other for its fulfilment. Hence in their own way, they have tried to explain this mystical desire in humans. Derrida has been seen as a major contributor (...)

A Critical Inquiry into Jürgen Habermas’ Hermeneutical Reflection as a Methodology of Social Science.Tizar Shahwirman - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (2):257-291.
This paper aims to examine and evaluate Habermas’ thoughts on hermeneutical reßection as a methodology of social science based on his work titled Zur Logik der Sozialwissenschaften (On The Logic of The Social Sciences). By starting from a theory of action approach focusing on the process of inquiring and understanding intentional action, Haber-mas developed a hermeneutical reßection approach emphasizing the importance of communicative experience between the researcher and the subject examined. This approach has emancipatory power because it encourages researchers to (...)

Sebuah Apresiasi terhadap Perubahan Pasal Hukuman Mati.Clemens Dion Yusila Timur - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (2):234-256.
This paper is meant to show why the introduction of probation in the capital punishment act of the new Code of Criminal Law is a change we should appreciate. This change will expectedly lead Indonesia to be a nation that de facto no longer employs capital punishment. This is a desirable consequence given that, in my view, capital punishment cannot be ethically justified. In this paper, I will show why arguments in defense of capital punishment by appealing to the deterrence (...)

Wisdom is A Tree of Life (Prov. 3:18): A Conceptual Metaphor.Bernadus Dirgaprimawan - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (1):79-92.
This article examines a proverbial saying "Wisdom is a tree of life" (Prov. 3:18) through the lens of conceptual metaphor. Such a metaphor works by mapping two conceptual domains. The direction goes from the SOURCE domain (an ancient myth of a miraculous tree that whets human’s appetite for eternal youth) to the TARGET domain (a concept of wisdom in life). Conceptual metaphor helps us to understand that the tree metaphor in Prov. 3:18 instills in the readers’ mind a kind of (...)

Ekonomi Ekologis Paus Fransiskus.Martin Harun & Stewart Braun - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (1):124-140.
This article outlines, first, Pope Francis’ economic vision which is both practical and radical. His views are practical in the sense that they are sensitive to social realities, not theoretical abstractions; and radical in the sense that it rejects traditional economic ideologies. Pope Francis advocates for economic practices that are oriented toward human goals: the common good, human dignity, equality and opportunity for all, meaningful work, ecological responsibility and solidarity. Second, Pope Francis’ various criticisms of neoliberal capitalism essentially challenge what (...)

Kesamaan Proporsional dan Ketidaksamaan Perlakuan dalam Teori Keadilan Aristoteles.Yosef Keladu - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (1):54-78.
This article aims to explain proportional equality and the way to comprehend the inequality of treatment found in Aristotle’s theory of justice. One of the ethical principles in a fair distribution of goods is equality, which is commonly understood as equality of treatment and outcomes. Surpassing this common understanding, if not in reverse, Aristotle offers proportional equality, in the sense that a fair distribution of goods must take into consideration balance or suitability between the goods distributed and the quality or (...)

Motif Inkarnasi dalam Soteriologi Yohanes Duns Scotus.Bernard Rahadian - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (1):93-123.
John Duns Scotus offered an alternative perspective to respect on the mystery of salvation by examining the motive behind the incarnation. Scotus believed that salvation is Christocentric: Motive wise, God incarnate is not primarily anthropocentric, which focuses on the sinfulness of humankind, as traditionally understood in the Catholic Scholastic Theology and taught by Anselm of Canterbury and Thomas Aquinas, but as a total manifestation of His love. Scotus’ Christocentric approach to salvation is in line with his thought on freedom and (...)

Reflecting on Teacher’s Authority through Hannah Arendt’s “The Crisis in Education”.Nopparat Ruankool - 2023 - Diskursus - Jurnal Filsafat dan Teologi STF Driyarkara 19 (1):1-18.
Child-centered education has become pervasive due to its emphasis on freedom, which is highly valued in modern society. This progressive approach has brought an inquiry into the teacher’s authority which is viewed as traditional and irrelevant for students today. This essay aims to step back and to explore the concept of the teacher’s ‘authority’ more deeply through Hannah Arendt’s writing entitled “The Crisis in Education”. It begins by analyzing what Arendt means by the ‘crisis’ in education, particularly in the American (...)

As a traumatic event, sexual violence does not only take a physical and psychological toll on the victims, but also causes existential crisis. In this light, we cannot restore the wellbeing of victims of sexual violence without restoring their own capability to exist as human beings in wholeness. Based on that condition, this article attempts to answer two problems: (i) what kind of ethics do we need in order to help victims of sexual violence restore their own existence as whole (...)
