Sur Les représentations sans objet

Abstract
Jacques Bouveresse places Bolzano's work within the framework of the history of Austrian philosophy. He shows how the famous problem of « objectless presentations », which the Brentanian school has much dealt with, originates in the work of the Czech philosopher. He compares the Bolzanian treatment of the problem and the various ones which were attempted among members of the Brentanian school. Eventually, he sheds a light on the specificity of Wittgenstein's position on this question: like Bolzano (but against Brentano), Wittgenstein rejects a psychological interpretation of the problem, but he refuses too (as Brentano does) Bolzano's semantical objectivism
