to roast or not to roast ‐ the ethics of coffee The Direct Trade (R)evolution ‐ more than 27 cents a day feelings, being morally superior ‐ while sipping a cappuccino fair trade–trademarked, consumers knowing ‐ specific economic, social, and environmental criteria have been met fair trade, the wave of the future for coffee companies ‐ with a socially responsible bent official fair trade certification ‐ a designation that farmers have received a fair price for their coffee, basic labor standards being met certification, awarded by the Fairtrade Labeling Organization International, or FLO United States, non‐profit called TransFair USA ‐ helping spearhead such process coffee talk, coffee luxurious and unnecessary ‐ with zero nutritional value, consumed as a part of national culture “Direct trade,” term used by roasters ‐ buying straight from the growers
