Abstract

Este artigo propõe-se examinar um aspecto particular do debate que Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929) mantém na sua obra com Santo Agostinho. O objectivd do autor, com efeito, é analisar a meditação dos dois pensadores sobre o milagre. O confronto de Rosenzweig com Agostinho sobre o assunto desemboca numa surpreendente e provocatória reabilitação do milagre, a qual assume traços decididamente "pós-modernos". O jogo subtil desta reabilitação encontra o seu núcleo especulativo central numa compreensão do milagre em termos de sinal. O milagre entendido como sinal configura-se a uma dinâmica complexa de profecia e realização das significativas valências histórico-temporais, a qual encontra o seu lugar privilegiado e o seu sentido último no contexto de uma bem precisa economia providencial Assim, é neste horizonte especulativo que se coloca a tese paradoxal segundo a qual o milagre não contradiz completamente toda a compreensão da natureza que a pensa como um complexo de fenómenos regulados por leis inflexíveis. Mas a intenção teorética fundamental da reabilitação rosenzweiguiana do milagre manifesta-se no momento em que o milagre, entendido em termos de sinal, é escolhido pelo pensador judeu como cifra suprema da relação que subsiste entre pensamento e revelação, saber e fé, filosofia e teologia. O primeiro termo dos pares acabados de mencionar pode, assim, tornar-se uma singular e insuprível profecia, da qual o segundo termo dos pares em causa pura e simplesmente representará a realização última. /// The present article aims at an examination of a particular aspect of the debate between Franz Rosenzweig and Saint Augustine. The objective of the author is indeed to analyze the meditation achieved by both thinkers about the miracle. In effect, the confrontation of Rosenzweig with Augustine on this issue ends up in a surprising and provoking rehabilitation of the miracle, one that assumes traces typical of postmodernity The subtle play pertaining to this rehabilitation finds its speculative core in an understanding of the miracle as a sign. The miracle understood as a sign becomes associated with the complex dynamism of prophecy and fulfillment in relation to the historic-temporal process, one that meets its privileged place and its deepest meaning in the context of a well determined providential economy. In this sense, it is within this speculative horizon that the author asserts the paradoxical thesis according to which the miracle does not completely contradict an understanding in which nature is thought of as a complex of phenomena regulated by laws that are predictable. However, the primordial theoretical intention of Rosenzweig's rehabilitation of the miracle comes particularly to the fore at the moment in which the miracle, understood as a sign, is chosen by the Jewish thinker as supreme cipher of the relation that subsists between thinking and revelation, knowledge and faith, philosophy and theology. The first term of the just mentioned conceptual pairs can thus become a single and ineluctable prophecy, of which the respective second term shall represent the ultimate realization.
