Signifying Grace: a reading of Lars Von Trier’s Dogville

Abstract

This paper examines the significance of the violently brutal and unexpected act that takes place at the end of Lars Von Trier’s Dogville by arguing that this act does not simply stage the pathetic satisfaction of revenge but rather exemplifies the Lacanian notion of ‘the act.’
