Abstract

My aim in this paper is to investigate the nature of advice better to understand the social and interpersonal dimension of wisdom. I seek to investigate the issue of wisdom within social epistemology, since the definitions proposed so far focus on the conditions of an individual character, based on the phenomenon of advice. The ability to give good advice is commonly associated with the figure of the sage. Since advice involves at least two individuals in a joint dialogue, it will be possible to extract interpersonal and social aspects of this practice. In this paper, I will discuss the following questions: Can advice be reduced to a particular case of testimony? What is the definition of advice? Furthermore, what indications are there regarding advice as a necessary condition for wisdom? Is wisdom a concept that belongs to the scope of social epistemology?
