La tesis que Todorov plantea en el prólogo de su texto "El jardín imperfecto". "Luces y sombras del pensamiento humanista" sirve de guía para discutir con autores centrales en el tema del humanismo -Heidegger, Sartre, Sloterdijk, principalmente- paca acabar proponiendo la relación entre deberes y derechos desde una perspectiva laica y con pretensiones universales como el marco posible del humanismo de nuestros días
