Abstract
Frailty has recently become a diagnostic category for older adults in the United States. Although one may have spoken colloquially of an individual as frail in years past, it was not considered a medical condition with a specific and quantifiable definition. Currently, the generally cited medical definition of frailty is “a biologic syndrome of decreased reserve and resistance to stressors, resulting from cumulative decline across multiple physiologic systems, and causing vulnerability to adverse outcomes”.
