Review of Metaphysics 43 (4):882-883 (1990)

James A. Harold
Franciscan University of Steubenville
Scharlemann presents not only a good overview of modern Protestant theological and philosophical thinking of the idealist school--as he discusses such seminal thinkers as Hegel, Schelling, Tillich, Barth, and Heidegger--he also works out his own original thinking from within this context. The text is relatively clearly written, despite certain overly clever and complicated formulations.
