Rhythms of the Brain – It's Not a ʻStream of Consciousnessʼ

Rhuthmos (forthcoming)

Abstract

A version of this op-ed appeared in print on May 10, 2015, on page SR9 of the New York edition of The New York Times with the headline : “Rhythms of the Brain”. It is also online here. IN 1890, the American psychologist William James famously likened our conscious experience to the flow of a stream. “A ‘river' or a ‘stream' are the metaphors by which it is most naturally described,” he wrote. “In talking of it hereafter, let's call it the stream of thought, consciousness, or subjective life.” - Biologie – Nouvel article
