Abstract

Philosophy and philosophies are personal-motivating their practitioners and shaping their lives-and impersonal-appealing to general reasons and attempting to formulate comprehensive worldviews. Professor Gale's book addresses both these aspects of William James's philosophy in their mutual tensions.
