On Fang Dongmei's Criticism of Xiong Shili

Abstract

And Xiong Shi-Fang Dongmei early Buddhism issues on a controversy, in his later years he repeatedly Xiong Shi proposed study, academic point of view and judge. Party's position and what is academic criticism Xiong Shi? Based on what he thought the traditional criticism of Xiong Shi? He criticized the attitude of Xiong Shi early and later years in what is the difference? This paper seeks to make this issue a few objective and fair comment, in order to explain the differences Xiong Fang and inherent in traditional Confucianism, "said Wen Xue" and "respect for virtue," opposition in the context of modern culture to continue. In his early years Fang Dongmei disputed against Xiong Shili on Buddhist doctrine, and then over and over again criticized Xiong Shili's academic point of view and style of study during his later years. From what academic standpoint does Fang Dongmei criticize Xiong Shili? What traditional thought does he hold to criticize Xiong Shili? What's the difference between his critical attitude toward Xiong Shili in early years and in later years? This paper is intended to fairly form a judgment on those questions above so as to explain that the divergence of opinion between Fang and Xiong is the continuation of the opposite positions between "Pursuing Scholarship" and "Honoring the Nature of Morality" inherent in traditional Confucianism, still happening upon the background of modern culture
