Climate Change: Against Despair

Abstract
Facing the facts about climate change and our failure to tackle it is an uncomfortable experience. For many people, these facts and our failures to date justify despair about our prospects for doing what it takes to properly address the problems of climate change by moving to a zero-carbon economy. It is not obvious that people in despair about tackling climate change are making a mistake. Consider the following reflections.A recent paper in Nature reports that the Arctic sea ice is shrinking at a rate far faster than predicted by any climate models (Whiteman, Hope, and Wadham 2013).
