Abstract

This article analyzes the impact of aging on pension systems in Latin America in general and Argentina in particular. Analysis of the demographic dependency is clear that aging increases the economic burden of social protection system in time. But, studying in depth the indicators traditionally used to calculate the economic impact of aging, its explanatory power can be put seriously in doubt. The "scarcity" is not found when considering the economic output of society as a whole. With an aging population, are contributory systems, not the economy as a whole, those who can not cope with the increase of retirees.
