Abstract
| : The philosophy of cognitive values and of intellectual vices and virtues pays little attention to the phenomenon of inner freedom and its relation to foolishness. We owe to the Polish poet and philosopher, Czesław Miłosz, a classic study of this relation, The Captive Mind (1953). I examine the contribution of this study and of an earlier and little known analysis by Miłosz of the heart of Julien Sorel and resentment to the philosophy of foolishness
