François Nault | Résumé : Quand on évoque le sommeil des apôtres au jardin de Gethsémani, c’est généralement pour souligner la faiblesse des amis de Jésus, qui n’ont pas eu le courage de veiller avec lui, au moment où il en avait manifestement bien besoin. Mais le sommeil des apôtres ne pourrait-il pas être interprété plus positivement : comme un témoignage plutôt qu’une trahison? Ainsi l’auteur de cet article cherche à montrer que le sommeil peut nous faire avancer dans la compréhension de ce que l’on appelle « témoignage ». En outre, il suggère que le sommeil en tant que tel peut constituer un témoignage chrétien, qu’il est même peut-être le plus beau témoignage que l’on puisse faire, dès lors justement qu’en dormant on ne fait rien. |: When reference is made to the sleep of the Apostles in the garden of Gethsemane, it is usually to underscore the weakness of Jesus’ friends, who did not have the courage to stay up with him, at the moment when he had manifest great need for it. Could not the sleep of the Apostles be interpreted more positively, however, as a testimony rather than as a betrayal? Thus the author of this article tries to show that sleep may make us progress in our understanding of what is called “testimony”. Furthermore, he suggests that sleep as such may constitute a Christian testimony ; it may even be the most beautiful witness to faith that could be born, since while sleeping you just do nothing
