Speculum 49 (1):75-90 (1974)
The devotional practice called St Gregory's Trental is not unfamiliar to students of both late medieval liturgy and Middle English literature. Though the verse legend which contains the story received considerable attention around the turn of the century, the liturgical observance itself has never been systematically studied. The aim of the present article is to lay at least the groundwork for such a study, though it will not be possible to solve all the questions which emerge. { event.preventDefault(); })
