| : This article attempts to grasp Jean-François Mattéi’s thought by exploring the theme of duality. Why do we make this choice? Because a philosopher can see here Mattéi’s fidelity to the Greek tradition in its constant move from one pole to the other. As illustrations, we take into consideration the following couples : philosophy/sophistry, wonder/indignation, civilization/barbarism, Europe and opposites ; they all create tensions requiring a great deal of exploration and thought.
