Abstract

This chapter is a response to the underlying ideas of the first four chapters of this book. On the one hand, we support the idea that there is a need to mobilize wisdom for a holistic view of education and sustainable way of existing. On the other hand, we highlight some issues that show how education can address some of the crises that humanity and the planet are facing today. This is not a critique of the previous chapters, it is more about highlighting issues that are either absent or not so prominent in them. We are also far from certain that the modern education systems will so easily include a holistic pedagogy of higher education. Incorporated attitudes, commercial thinking based on new public management, and administrations exercising control and management of scientific staff, tell us that the battle can be hard and long lasting.
