Abstract

The discussion of applied ethics has generated a major interrogation in thefield of moral philosophy. On the one hand, there are those who assert thatapplied ethics is a new area of knowledge, with its own object, methodologyand status as well as having different ends to general ethics. On the otherhand, there are those who understand applied ethics as equivocal, as ethicshas always been a part of the kind of philosophy whose object is humanaction . As such, ethics has always been applied philosophy. Theaim of the present essay is to reconstruct and evaluate the arguments of bothsides in this debate
