Le débat de Käsermann et de Bultmann

Dans la première moitié du XX° siècle, la recherche historique sur Jésus a-t-elle été aussi stagnante que l'expression « no-quest » le laisse entendre ? Les travaux de J. Jeremias, de W. G. Kümmel et surtout de R. Bultmann permettent de nuancer le propos. Mais pour ce dernier, la restitution de la figure du Jésus historique étant très aléatoire, limité est l'intérêt théologique de la démarche. En 1953, E. Käsemann sera à l'origne d'une réaction à l'égard du « scepticisme historique » de son maître qu'il trouve exageré et dangereux quant aux conséquences théologiques. Car la communauté qui a exprimé sa foi et proposé son kérygme sous la forme d'un récit, a tenu à intégrer « l'histoire terrestre de Jésus » lui donnant du même coup une autorité remarquable : l'histoire de Jésus est constitutive de la foi, même si demeure impossible d'écrire une « vie de Jésus ».In the first of the 20th century, was the historical research on Jesus as stagant as the expression « no-quest » J.
