Abstract

Dewey and Whitehead are subject to the universe as a continuously changing qualification process, emphasizing the real occasion of timing, body and creativity, positive experience immediate nature, continuity and spontaneity, and "functional" concept instead of "entity" in traditional metaphysics of status, they have been incorporated into contemporary "qualification process philosophers" of the series. But Dewey is an important representative of American pragmatism, although he had been early and objective view of the new Hegelian Concept regardless of the impact, but then he thought convenient to the nature, skepticism regardless, and even the scientific doctrine tilt, regardless of a nervous and speculation philosophy of the hold with a critical and negative attitude. The other hand, was originally Whitehead scientists and mathematicians, who cooperate with Russell on the door of contemporary symbolic logic. But then it turned to philosophy, to anti-scientific materialism regardless of body philosophy and qualification processes the universe regardless of their ideological axis; to defense of Western speculative philosophy and management of the tradition, "there are nervous regardless," and no nervous regardless, to provide In order to "other than in the nervous regardless "choice. After they emigrated to the U.S. from Whitehead, and Dewey occasional interaction. Whitehead wrote an article praising Dewey, Dewey also wrote commentaries twice and get pregnant with their philosophy's response. Two reciprocal development of human thought and interaction, qualification process in contemporary philosophy of research, quite worthy of observation. In English speaking world, J. Dewey and AN Whitehead were two of the most renowned philosophers of process, who took nature as becoming process, highlighted the temporal, organic, and creative characters of reality, and asserted the immediacy, continuity, and spontaneity of physical and mental experiences. In addition, they both substituted the concept of "function" for that of "substance" in the status of traditional metaphysics and thereby had been considered as philosophers thinking process. However, it is noteworthy that Dewey, a great representative of American pragmatism, though having imbibed neo-Kantianism and neo-Hegelianism in the early stage of his philosophical development, directed his thought toward naturalism, skepticism, and empiricism and eventually became critical to theism and speculative philosophy. While Whitehead, though originally a mathematician and a logician, converted to philosophy and became an exponent of speculative philosophy and process metaphysics with a critical attitude to scientific materialism and its variations. With the belief that the role of God is indispensible in the construction of the modern worldview Whitehead suggested the alternative of panentheism other than theism and atheism. The remarkably contrasts between the two and their interactions after Whitehead's migration to America provide an interesting topic in our understanding the development of contemporary process philosophy and their contributions to the related issues
