    It is argued that a popular way of accounting for the distinctive value of knowledge by appeal to the distinctive value of cognitive achievements fails because it is a mistake to identify knowledge with cognitive achievements.     Beatty, Brandon, and Sober agree that biological generalizations, when contingent, do not qualify as laws.
