In this article, I contrast two of the main schools of thought within eco-Marxism, namely Metabolic Rift (MR) and World-Ecology (WE). These differ above all else in their accounts of the ontological status of society and nature. The Covid-19 pandemic constitutes a moment of concretisation of this long-standing debate, which is able to dissolve at least in part its issues. The article consists of four parts. I begin with a summary of the two schools of thought and their core stances, (...) before proceeding to unpack their respective theoretical points of contention. I subsequently proceed to explore the conceptualisation of health according to the Marxist scientists Richard Levins and Richard Lewontin through the model of dialectical biology. In the third section, I unpack the conceptualisation of the Covid-19 pandemic by the epidemiologist Robert Wallace, before finally concluding with the contrasts of the two schools in the light of dialectical biology. O artigo detém-se em mostrar algumas das principais considerações de Walter Benjamin à história, apresentadas em seu texto - Sobre o conceito da história - escrito e publicado em alemão, originalmente, no mesmo ano de seu suicídio, em 1940. A frente do desencadeamento dos movimentos totalitaristas da Europa do século XX, Benjamin propõe um projeto intelectual, voltado a despertar nas classes subalternas o sentimento de revolução e de interrupção do continnun histórico. Para ele, a história sempre é contada do ponto (...) de vista das classes hegemônicas, os vencedores da história. Estes, modelam e dirigem a história conforme seus interesses particulares, excluindo dos processos historiais, as várias contradições políticas, econômicas e sociais do passado. No presente, assim, a história não é contada, narrada e exposta na natureza íntegra e verídica dos fatos. Fato este, que leva o conformismo a todos aqueles que, no instante presente, deveriam redimir as injustiças cometidas no passado pelas classes hegemônicas. Deste modo, será pertinente trabalhar os dezoito aforismo que compõe seu texto, para entender, quais os principais motivos que levaram Benjamin à ter o sentimento pessimista da história. Com isso, busca-se esclarecer, suscintamente, alguns dos principais pressupostos teóricos que compõe seu projeto intelectual. No cerne de sua proposta o conceito de ‘paradoxal reversibilidade recíproca’ (Umschlagen) assume significativa importância pois, é através dele que Benjamin propõe um movimento esquerdista acionário e mais radical do que o marxismo tradicional, para salvar a humanidade da catástrofe histórica: a propagação do liberalismo econômico. This paper is devoted to the analysis of Plotinus’ citation of the Heraclitean saying B113 DK in the second treatise On the Presence of Being (VI 5 [23]). I shall argue that the use which the author of the Enneads makes of this fragment has been hitherto misunderstood by scholars and that, for this reason, the significance of the passage and its role within Plotinus’ argument have been missed. Close attention will be paid to the tool through which Plotinus conveys (...) his own reading of Heraclitus’ tenet, i.e. etymology, and to the passages in which he both lays down and puts into practice the programmatic guidelines for his interpretation of the Presocratic. In addition, I shall interpret Plotinus’ recourse to a wordplay which is, in character, quite Heraclitean as a proof of the importance of his philosophical engagement with the Obscure. (shrink)
