Jaký obraz člověka nabízejí současné společenské a humanitní vědy? Tato otázka je středobodem zájmu autorského kolektivu, v němž má své zastoupení sociologie, antropologie, filosofie, historiografie, andragogika, psychologie i evoluční biologie. Ač je publikace jako celek svým zaměřením především teoretická, v jednotlivých kapitolách nalezneme množství konkrétních příkladů z reálného světa: od umění a vážení přes čtverylku a hokej až po panenku Barbie či vztah lidí k horám. Kniha ukazuje, že obrazy člověka v různých oborech nejsou zcela nesourodé, ale že naopak (...) umožňují vzájemné obohacení. Nejde o soupeřící „pohledy“ na tentýž předmět zájmu, ale spíše o možnost mezi jednotlivými společenskovědními „hrami“ svobodně volit – s vědomím toho, že každá z nich má nejen své meze a pravidla, ale i svůj vlastní půvab. Příspěvek připomíná filosofii „posledního Římana a prvního scholastika“ Anicia Bo­ethia, který je nejznámější díky své filosofické básni Útěcha z filosofie. Tento článek se soustředí na jinou stránku Boethiovy tvorby, na jeho překladatelské úsilí z řečtiny do latiny, kdy vytvořil novou terminologii a tak mohl syntetizovat filosofickou roztříš­těnost názorů jeho současníků pomocí exaktní metodologie. Ve svém vědeckém jazyce používal umění i logiku dohromady, s důrazem na větší srozumitelnost.Boethius sjednotil díky svému filosofickému jazyku mnoho rozdílných filosofic­kých škol – Platóna, Aristotela, pythagorejce, (...) novoplatonismus a křesťanskou teologii. Zformalizoval vědecký výzkum podle aritmetiky, dokázal reformovat svobodná umění do křesťanského světa a sjednotit vědu a filosofii pomocí matematiky. Svoji metodu nazval quadrivium, tedy čtyři cesty k moudrosti, jako součást Sedmi svobodných umění (lat. Septem artes liberales). Quadrivium se sestávalo z aritmetiky, geometrie, astronomie a hudby. Tyto čtyři způsoby považoval Boethius za nejlepší pe­dagogickou cestu k poznání fyzikálních zákonitostí našeho světa (lat. naturalia). Díky abstraktnosti této matematické cesty preferoval i důležitost jazyka a terminologie, která se používá. I přes logickou koherentnost je dle něj možné používat umělecká vyjádření pro větší srozumitelnost.Článek ukazuje i obtíže současné vědy, která je také limitována jazykem. Protože v minulosti filosofové stáli před podobným problémem, může Boethius svým důrazem na svobodnou cestu filosofie stále inspirovat. (shrink)

Art of seeing, John Rajchman argues in his essay, was in the center of Michel Foucault’s critical attention as well as practice. Foucault himself was a visual thinker and writer. More importantly, however, the ways in which historically changing vision determines not only what is seen, but what can be seen, are one of his major concerns. Rupture with self-evidences is then the first step one must take to make the invisible – yet not hidden – power visible. Th e (...) invisibility of power, seen as the invisible light that makes other things visible, is what makes it tolerable. Knowledge and the practice of knowing themselves are constructed by the technology of the visual, such as the diff erent types of spaces that bring about specific visibility. In Foucault’s histories, the prison or the clinic are such spaces that have visualized criminality, sexuality or madness in particular manner. However, problematization of these things needs to go beyond new ways of looking at them and has to question their entire field of vision. This implies that Foucauldian ethics is less concerned with what we do about things themselves, instead, it rather asks how we see them in the first place and how can they be seen differently. It thus requires not to look within us, on the contrary, we should look out, from outside of ourselves. (shrink)

Desde la aparición, en 1927, de su obra central Ser y tiempo, Martin Heidegger ha sido y sigue siendo considerado por amplios sectores de opinión como el filósofo más importante del siglo XX. Frente a esta sobrevaloración del filósofo de los Bosques Negros, Heleno Saña procede, en su documentadísimo libro, a una crítica de la filosofía heideggeriana, intentando demostrar que está basada en una tergiversación e instrumentalización sistemáticas de la terminología y los conceptos esenciales de la filosofía clásica. El resultado (...) final de sus ejercicios hermenéuticos y sus continuos malabarismos lingüísticos, es un irracionalismo de índole claramente nihilista, por su culto implícito y explícito a la muerte. En este sentido es altamente significativo que a la biografía y a la filosofía heideggerianas pertenezcan su adhesión al nacionalsocialismo y la glorificación de Alemania como la “raza de los señores” por excelencia, tema al que Heleno Saña dedica la debida atención. Because of this new ability to create they, fallaciously, consider themselves – from their new positions of becoming artists - having also become art critics but they fail to understand the complexity of creative process. We intend to exemplify with the art of the American painter Cy Twombly, that some works of (...) art which seem to be easy to copy and therefore not worth enough are in fact a result of the author ́s erudition, talent, diligence and clear intention. Twombly ́s works are connected with topics such as sigh, ability to decipher, Apollonian and Dionysian principles and the dichotomy Eros/Thanatos. We will present the artist's original non-copiable way of taking inspiration from classical mytological stories and some interpretative approaches. (shrink)
