    On Intrinsic Information Content of the Physical Mind in Quantized Space: Against Externalism.R. R. Poznanski, L. A. Cacha, M. A. Tengku, A. L. Ahmad Zubaidi, S. Hussain, J. Ali & J. A. Tuszynski - 2019 - Axiomathes 29 (2):127-137.
If the physical mind is located in quantized space of the brain then how does the physical mind become the self? This remains an unresolved problem. It can be restated as how mental representations or mental states get their informational contents, and of doing so in terms of the natural functions brain states have? We call these natural brain functions not teleosemantic functions, but rather teleological functions. This is because teleosemantics portrays mental representations which must have informational contents that track (...)

Workflow for Improvement of 3D Anisotropic CSEM Resistivity Inversion and Integration with Seismic Using Cross-Gradient Constraint to Reduce Exploration Risk in a Complex Fold-Thrust Belt in Offshore Northwest Borneo.Max A. Meju, Ahmad Shahir Saleh, Randall L. Mackie, Federico Miorelli, Roger V. Miller & Noor Kartini S. Mansor - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (3):SG49-SG57.
The focus of hydrocarbon exploration has now moved into frontier regions where structural complexity, heterogeneous overburden, and hydrocarbon system fundamentals are significant challenges requiring an integrated exploration approach. Three-dimensional controlled-source electromagnetic anisotropic resistivity imaging is emerging as a technique to combine with seismic imaging in such regions. However, the typically reconstructed horizontal resistivity [Formula: see text] and vertical resistivity [Formula: see text] models often have conflicting depth structures that are difficult to explain in terms of subsurface geology. It is highly (...)

Seismic Image-Guided 3d Inversion of Marine Csem and Mt Data.Randall L. Mackie, Max A. Meju, Federico Miorelli, Roger V. Miller, Carsten Scholl & Ahmad Shahir Saleh - forthcoming - Interpretation:1-43.
Geological interpretation of resistivity models from marine controlled-source electromagnetic and magnetotelluric data for hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir monitoring can be problematic due to structural complexity and low resistivity contrasts in sedimentary units typically found in new frontier areas. It is desirable to reconstruct three-dimensional resistivity structures that are consistent with seismic images and geological expectations of the subsurface in order to reduce uncertainty in the evaluation of petroleum ventures. Structural similarity is achieved by promoting a cross-gradient constraint between external seismically-derived (...)

Before Ṯābit b. Qurra's translation, there was a first Arabic version of Nicomachus’ Introduction to arithmetic. Full of mistakes, it was revised by an anonymous student of al-Kindī. Thanks to the part that Freudenthal and Levy have edited and translated, we are now able to identify this reviser as Aḥmad b. al-Ṭayyib al-Saraḫsī, who we also identified as the author of the Rasā᾿il Iḫwān al-Ṣafā᾿.

Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility Attributions on Employees’ Creative Performance: The Mediating Role of Psychological Safety.Ifzal Ahmad, Magda B. L. Donia & Khurram Shahzad - 2019 - Ethics and Behavior 29 (6):490-509.
This study contributes to the growing literature on individual-level outcomes of corporate social responsibility. Employing a sample of 339 subordinate–supervisor dyads, we explored the differential impact of CSR attributions on employees’ creative performance in the telecom industry. We also introduced and tested the role of psychological safety as a mediator underlying this relationship. The results indicate that although intrinsic CSR attributions are not directly related to creative performance, extrinsic CSR attributions have a significant negative effect on creative performance. We also (...)

Psychopathy refers to a range of complex behaviors and personality traits, including callousness and antisocial behavior, typically studied in criminal populations. Recent studies have used self-reports to examine psychopathic traits among noncriminal samples. The goal of the current study was to examine the underlying factor structure of the Self-Report of Psychopathy Scale–Short Form (SRP-SF) across complementary samples and examine the impact of gender on factor structure. We examined the structure of the SRP-SF among 2,554 young adults from three undergraduate samples (...)

Known primarily for his popular and moralizing novels, Nazir Ahmad’s accomplishments as a scholar of Islam are often omitted from his biography. Yet in addition to working for the British Government of India, participating in Muslim social, political, and educational initiatives on the subcontinent, and demonstrating his linguistic and legal acumen by translating the law codes of British India into vernacular Urdu, Nazir Ahmad also translated religious texts and penned his own original compositions on themes of religion, society, (...)

Business ethics is defined, and the causes and consequences of unethical behavior are discussed. Issues pertaining to leadership, subordinate and organisation responsibility for business ethics are considered. The changing role of business leaders and the new concept of ''corporate governance'' are examined, with an increasing importance being placed on ethical and socially responsible attitudes towards business. Organisational effectiveness and organisational efficiency, formerly (...)

    Towards a Semantic Typology of Adversative and Contrast Marking.A. L. Malchukov - 2004 - Journal of Semantics 21 (2):177-198.
The article concerns the issue of the semantic typology of adversative connectives such as Russian no and English but. I adopt a semantic map approach in order to establish semantic relations between the adversative function and other functions in the domain of coordination on the basis of cross‐linguistically attested polysemy patterns. Thus, I establish two ‘routes’ connecting the adversative to the coordinating (‘and’) function, via the contrast function, on the one hand, and the mirative function, on the other hand. It (...)

I explore some of the ways that assumptions about the nature of substance shape metaphysical debates about the structure of Reality. Assumptions about the priority of substance play a role in an argument for monism, are embedded in certain pluralist metaphysical treatments of laws of nature, and are central to discussions of substantivalism and relationalism. I will then argue that we should reject such assumptions and collapse the categorical distinction between substance and property.

It is important to recognize that the problem dealt with by Plato in the central part of the Sophist is one which arises from the use of certain Greek phrases, and has no necessary or direct connexion with metaphysics. We tend to obscure this fact if we use English terms such as ‘Being’, ‘Reality’, ‘Existence’, etc., in discussing the dialogue, and indeed make it almost impossible to understand what Plato is trying to do. It is the way in which die (...)

    Ethics of Modifying the Mitochondrial Genome.A. L. Bredenoord, W. Dondorp, G. Pennings & G. De Wert - 2011 - Journal of Medical Ethics 37 (2):97-100.
Recent preclinical studies have shown the feasibility of specific variants of nuclear transfer to prevent mitochondrial DNA disorders.
