    Hegel's "Philosophy of Nature".A. V. Miller & M. J. Petry - 1971 - Philosophy 46 (178):355-357.
This is a much-needed reissue of the standard English translation of Hegel's Philosophy of Nature, originally published in 1970. The Philosophy of Nature is the second part of Hegel's Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences, all of which is now available in English from OUP. Hegel's aim in this work is to interpret the varied phenomena of Nature from the standpoint of a dialectical logic. Those who still think of Hegel as a merely a priori philosopher will here find abundant evidence (...)

  9. Introduction to the Lectures on the History of Philosophy.T. M. Knox & A. V. Miller (eds.) - 1987 - Clarendon Press.
This new translation of the first volume of Hegel's Lectures on the History of Philosophy is a welcome and valuable addition to the new translations of Hegel's works, and now appears in paperback for the first time. Hegel's History of Philosophy has been described as perhaps one of his greatest achievements, and also as the first systematic history of philosophy since Aristotle. The translation included material from lecture notes taken by Hegel's pupils in 1923-4, 1925-6, and 1927-8. This material was (...)

Letter to The Editor: Hegel and Evolution.A. V. Miller - 1971 - The Owl of Minerva 3 (1):5-6.
Professor Errol E. Harris in his review in The Owl of Minerva of Dr. Petry’s translation of the Naturphilosophie attributes Hegel’s “firm rejection of theories of biological evolution” to the lack of scientific evidence. “He had the philosophical insight but he refused to claim support for it from scientific theories which were largely based on speculation.” The inference seems to be that if Hegel had lived to read Darwin’s Origin of Species he would have accepted a theory of evolution. Professor (...)

  12. Hegel's Philosophy of Mind.William Wallace & A. V. Miller (eds.) - 1970 - Clarendon Press.
The present reissue of Wallace's translation of Hegel's Philosophy of Mind includes the Zusatze or lecture-notes which, in the collected works, accompany the first section entitled "Subjective Mind" and which Wallace omitted from his translation. Professor J. N. Findlay has written a Foreword and this replaces Wallace's introductory essays.

  13. Hegel: Philosophy of Mind: Translated with Introduction and Commentary.W. Wallace & A. V. Miller (eds.) - 2006 - Clarendon Press.
Hegel is an immensely important yet difficult philosopher. His Philosophy of Mind is one of the main pillars of his thought. Michael Inwood, highly respected for his previous work on Hegel, presents this central work to the modern reader in an accurate new translation supported by a philosophically sophisticated editorial introduction and elucidating scholarly commentary.
