Aux sources du sentiment européen de l'identité se trouverait un héritage contrasté d'idées et de croyances venu des « Lumières » du XVIII siècle. Telle est la thèse développée dans L'Esprit des Lumières, un essai philosophique et politique publié en 2006 par Tzvetan Todorov. Cette mutation radicale de la pensée est un phénomène historique qui se produit en Europe, au XVIII siècle, et est « responsable de [l']identité présente » des Européens. L'auteur en réexamine les acquis, le projet initial, les (...) grands principes et les errements ultérieurs, en insistant sur l'actualité de ce qui serait « la création la plus prestigieuse de l'Europe »: cet idéal, cet « esprit » éclairé, lucide, de « libre examen [...] critique ». Il termine par un acte de foi: « l'identité de l'Europe [et] donc sa "volonté générale" [ne] pourr[ont] s'affirmer [que] si l'on s'appuie sur les analyses faites à l'époque des Lumières. This is the thesis of The Spirit of Enlightenment, a philosophical essay and policy published in 2006 by Tzvetan Todorov. Published in 1973, "L'Etourdit" was one of the French philosopher Jacques Lacan's most important works. Les comportements dans l’entreprise : dilemmes sociaux et climats éthiques.

L'ethique des affaires semble prise dans une tension entre deux ambitions: d'une part, la recherche d'un cadre normatif sur-mesure, adapte aux specificites de la vie des affaires et respectueux de principes ethiques fondamentaux; d'autre part la formulation d'une nouvelle maniere de penser le role de l'entreprise dans la societe qui, tout en restant coherente avec le liberalisme economique, depasserait l'hypothese sous-jacente d'individualisme et reconcilierait la morale des affaires et la morale ordinaire. Dans certaines de ses versions, comme celle defendue dans (...) l'un des textes commentes (Edward Freeman et alii), la theorie des parties prenantes pretend faire la synthese de ces ambitions. Si elle se heurte a des resistances theoriques et pratiques, comme celle, classique, exposee par Milton Friedman dans le premier texte, elle renforce le poids des considerations politiques dans l'ethique des affaires et contribue a rapprocher cette branche de l'ethique appliquee de l'ethique economique et sociale. Comme les autres branches de l'ethique appliquee, l'ethique des affaires (business ethics) suscite de nombreuses questions epistemologiques et pratiques. Les premieres ont trait notamment aux rapports qu'entretiennent ses dimensions normative et empirique. Les secondes concernent surtout sa supposee incapacite a apporter un reel progres moral dans les pratiques des acteurs et dans le fonctionnement du systeme economique. Cette inefficacite est souvent mise sur le compte d'une allegeance inconditionnelle de la discipline au liberalisme. L'ethique des affaires s'est constituee sur ce fond (...) de scepticisme, et elle s'est efforcee d'y repondre de facon imaginative et constructive. C'est ainsi que certaines de ses theories ont une ambition considerable. Car si elles etaient effectivement mises en pratique, elles conduiraient a un changement radical du systeme economique actuel. Les textes qui composent cet ouvrage temoignent non seulement de la richesse des contributions de l'ethique des affaires sur ces deux types de questions, mais aussi de sa pretention a modifier profondement les pratiques de la vie economique. In this book, Alain Badiou and Jean-Luc Nancy, the two most important living philosophers in France, discuss German philosophy from a French perspective. Written in the form of a dialogue, and revised and expanded from a 2016 conversation between the two philosophers at the Universität der Künste Berlin, the book offers not only Badiou's and Nancy's reinterpretations of German (...) philosophers and philosophical concepts, but also an accessible introduction to the greatest thinkers of German philosophy. Badiou and Nancy discuss and debate such topics as the legacies of Kant, Hegel, and Marx, as well as Nietzsche, Adorno, Fichte, Schelling, and the unavoidable problem of Heidegger and Nazism. The invisible object, in the eighteenth century, is not an evidence. It is the result of textual and semantic learning. Which concrete strategies are used to construct and depict objects out of sight? How do we make them a cognitive reality acceptable to a scientific community? This paper first highlights the conditions for the emergence of a field of microscopic knowledge and its epistemological consequences. Then we consider the microscopic gaze in terms of learning, situated between the act of observation (...) as such and discursive practices. We conclude by studying a concrete case of “negotiation of the invisible” in a correspondence between Carl Linnaeus and John Ellis concerning corpuscles observed in mushroom infusions. (shrink)
