Economic Necessity, Political Contingency and the Limits of Post-Marxism.Ceren Özselçuk - 2014 - Routledge.
Post-Marxism emerged in the 1970s and 80s as a way to retain certain insights from Marxism while disposing of its indefensible and destructive elements, especially the tendency to reduce all social change to the economic base. This book offers a new and critical reading of post-Marxism, arguing that whilst it convincinly deconstructs the prevalent economism in Marxism as the necessary logic of social reproduction, it nonetheless still retains an ontology of a closed capitalist economy, inhabited by a set of necessary (...)

Social Responsibility Education Across Europe: A Comparative Approach.Ceren Altuntas, Samuel O. Idowu & Duygu Turker (eds.) - 2016 - Cham: Imprint: Springer.
This book provides a comprehensive and multi-facetted analysis of the current state of social-responsibility education in various European countries. It explores the different approaches toward CSR education across Europe by identifying each country's current practices and university courses, and by revealing the effect of these methods on future generations of leaders. Using a quantitative research methodology, the book presents comparisons of the current nature and implications of CSR education in a sample of 10 business schools from Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, (...)

The (Silk) Road Less Travelled: East Asian Studies and National Identity Formation in Modern Turkey.Ceren Ergenç - 2017 - Diogenes 64 (3-4):51-72.
Regional studies in Turkey have long focused on Europe and the Middle East, with which Turkey has traditionally been associated. East Asian studies seem to remain out of the spotlight. This study claims firstly that different phases of Asian studies scholarship in Turkey have all been geared towards confirmation and validation of the process of Turkish national identity formation. Secondly, this process also reflects the Western-centrism of Turkish academic knowledge production. This paper presents a periodization of Asian Studies in Turkey (...)

Message Framing Effects on Individuals' Social Distancing and Helping Behavior During the COVID-19 Pandemic.Melis Ceylan & Ceren Hayran - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
This research responds to urgent calls to fill knowledge gaps on COVID-19 in communicating social distancing messages to the public in the most convincing ways. The authors explore the effectiveness of framing social distancing messages around prosocial vs. self-interested appeals in driving message compliance and helping behavior. The results show that when a message emphasizes benefits for everyone in society, rather than solely for the individual, citizens find the message more persuasive to engage in social distancing, and also more motivating (...)

Error Rates and Uncertainty Reduction in Rule Discovery.M. Emrah Aktunc, Ceren Hazar & Emre Baytimur - 2020 - Review of Philosophy and Psychology 12 (2):435-452.
Three new versions of Wason’s 2-4-6 rule discovery task incorporating error rates or feedback of uncertainty reduction, inspired by the error-statistical account in philosophy of science, were employed. In experiments 1 and 2, participants were instructed that some experimenter feedback would be erroneous. The results showed that performance was impaired when there was probabilistic error. In experiment 3, participants were given uncertainty reduction feedback as they generated different number triples and the negative effects of probabilistic error were not observed. These (...)

What’s next? Some priorities for young planning scholars to tackle tomorrow’s complex challenges.Sıla Ceren Varış Husar, Asma Mehan, Rüya Erkan, Tjark Gall, Ledio Allkja, Milan Husar & Mennatullah Hendawy - 2023 - European Planning Studies 31 (6).
Many European planning schools recently celebrated their 50th anniversary: a sign that planning education became a distinct and established discipline in Europe. Simultaneously, political regimes, paradigms, cultures, and economies continue fueling mixed connotations within the planning sector. Additionally, growing wicked problems in built areas emphasize an even greater need for well-trained planners. These challenges span climate crises, wars, authoritarian regimes, socio-political instability, and constantly changing global geopolitics. The increasingly complex demands on planners are highly pertinent for Young Academics (YA). They (...)

Spectres of Marx in the Lacanian Left: Between Melancholia and Mourning of Marxism.David Pavón-Cuéllar - 2023 - Revista de Humanidades de Valparaíso 23:91-106.
Moving into the space of tension and contradiction between philosophy and psychoanalysis, I reflect on the spectral way in which Marx and his legacy appear in the Lacanian Left. I explain this spectrality through the impossible mourning of Marxism. I bring in three authors who prescribe mourning here and ignore its impossibility: Özselçuk, Stavrakakis and Alemán. I resort to Benjamin, Lacan, Allouch and Traverso to problematise the Freudian distinction between mourning and melancholy in its application to Marxism. Instead of (...)
