The following text presents some features of the discussion about the origin of language by Rousseau, Fichte and Nietzsche trying to enhance common elements between the three authors, especially by taking the historical (...)

Ionesco and the Critics: Eugène Ionesco Interviewed by Gabriel Jacobs.Eugène Ionesco & Gabriel Jacobs - 1975 - Critical Inquiry 1 (3):641-667.
GJ: We've talked a lot about critics who are hostile toward you. Do you ever feel the need to make a stand against those who are favourably inclined toward your plays but whose comments seem to you to be stupid? EI: Well, for better or worse, that's what I've always done: I wrote Notes and Counter-Notes, had discussions with Claude Bonnefoy, I've written articles; and in each case what I've said, in short, is that critics who gave me their approval, (...)

  18. If pornography is the theory, is inequality the practice?Thelma McCormack - 1993 - Philosophy of the Social Sciences 23 (3):298-326.
This article critically examines the 1992 decision by the Supreme Court of Canada on pornography (Butler v. the Queen). The decision, like the LEAF (Legal Education Action Fund), argues that the dehumanizing and degrading images of women in pornography undermine the achievement of gender equality and reinforce existing inequality. Section 15 of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms takes precedence over Section 2(b) freedom of expression. More immediately, Section 163(8) of the Criminal Code of Canada remains the primary instrument for (...)

Ethical Health Communication: A Content Analysis of Predominant Frames and Primes in Public Service Announcements.Renita Coleman & Lesa Hatley Major - 2014 - Journal of Mass Media Ethics 29 (2):91-107.
Health communication is increasingly being held to higher moral standards. No longer do noble goals outweigh ethical concerns. This content analysis examines ethical frames and primes in health public service announcements so we may begin to address the most prevalent of the problematic ones and find more ethical alternatives. In this study, 80% of the PSAs conveyed messages that individuals were to blame. Negative emotion, such as fear, was the second most frequent frame. Stereotypes of women were the primes most (...)

Philosophy and the Dialectic of Modernity.Thelma Z. Lavine - 1998 - The Paideia Archive: Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy 42:83-88.
Habermas' social philosophy can now be perceived in its oppositional structures and their symbolic meaning. His repetition of structural opposition finds its expression in the symbolism which pervades The Philosophic Discourse of Modernity in the opposition between the dreaded myth of the Dialectic of Enlightenment and the redemptive fantasy of the path yet to be taken. More significant for the intellectual culture of modernity is the neglect, by erasure on the part of this esteemed philosopher, of the great drama of (...)

    Intermediate Man. [REVIEW]Thelma Z. Lavine - 1984 - Review of Metaphysics 37 (4):861-863.
This book is an important challenge to the extensive literature--philosophical, sociological, and aesthetic--concerning the much abused concept of alienation. Lachs boldly proposes scrapping the concept of alienation: "It is unlikely that we shall make much headway in understanding the source and nature of our social ailments without abandoning the idea of alienation." He regards alienation as flawed by vagueness; by lack of rules for its application; by indiscriminate reference to objective conditions and subjective discomfort; and by the confusion of description (...)
