  1. The English Puritans and Spiritual Desertion: A Protestant Perspective on the Place of Spiritual Dryness in the Christian Life.David Chou-Ming Wang - 2010 - Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care 3 (1):42-65.
Spiritual depression is a term originally employed by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones to describe the phenomenon of Christians experiencing a state of the soul that is marked by an unusually potent and longstanding sense of pessimism, inadequacy, despondency, and lack of activity within one's relationship with God for what appears to be no discernable cause. Although St. John of the Cross’ The Dark Night of the Soul is arguably the most historically influential work on the subject, the English Puritans also developed (...)

Scholars of early Chinese philosophy frequently point to the nontranscendent, organismic conception of the cosmos in early China as the source of China's unique perspective and distinctive values. One would expect recent works in Confucian ethics to capitalize on this idea. Reviewing recent works in Confucian ethics by P. J. Ivanhoe, David Nivison, R. P. Peerenboom, Henry Rosemont, and Tu Wei-Ming, the author analyzes these new studies in terms of the extent to which their representation of Confucian ethics (...)

The Transformation of the Wang Yangming Scholarship in the West, Ca. 1960–1980: A Historical Essay.George L. Israel - 2018 - Asian Philosophy 28 (2):135-156.
ABSTRACTStudents of Ming philosophy and the thought of Wang Yangming likely know that the 1960s–1970s was a period during which many scholarships in this field of study were produced in the English language. Indeed, it has been almost half a century since a group of scholars came together at the University of Hawaii to present papers on Wang Yangming in commemoration of the fifth centenary of his birth. That group included, for example, Wing-tsit Chan, David Nivison, (...)

    Multiconsensus of Second-Order Multiagent Networks Via Pulse-Modulated Intermittent Control.Ming Chi, Xu-Long Wang, Ding-Xin He & Zhi-Wei Liu - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-8.
This paper studies the multiconsensus problem of multiagent networks based on sampled data information via the pulse-modulated intermittent control which is a general control framework unifying impulsive control, intermittent control, and sampling control. Two kinds of multiconsensus, including stationary multiconsensus and dynamic multiconsensus of multiagent networks, are taken into consideration in such control framework. Based on the eigenvalue analysis and algebraic graph theory, some necessary and sufficient conditions on the feedback gains and the control period are established to ensure the (...)

Social Behaviour and Communication in Biological and Artificial Systemsinteraction Studies / Social Behaviour and Communication in Biological and Artificial Systemsinteraction Studies 20 (1):42-60.
Customized bus services are conducive to improving urban traffic and environment, and have attracted widespread attention. However, the problems encountered in the new customized bus mode include the large difference between the basis of customized bus passenger flow data analysis and the basis of the traditional bus passenger flow data analysis, and the difficulty in different vehicle scheduling caused by the combination of traditional and customized bus modes. We propose a customized bus passenger flow analysis algorithm and multi-destination customized bus (...)

In this paper, have two parts: the first is the critical part, in this section I will critically pointed out that the reductionism of the research project in the face of ideas and language to explain the dualism of the plight of the game, only to avoid paying with phenomenology price. Followed by the construction of the part, I will be back "perspective of dualism," the anthropological roots, and this "perspective dualism" itself does not exclude a unified view of natural (...)

Online State of Charge Estimation of Lithium-Ion Cells Using Particle Filter-Based Hybrid Filtering Approach.Ming Zhang, Kai Wang & Yan-Ting Zhou - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-10.
Filtering based state of charge estimation with an equivalent circuit model is commonly extended to Lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicle or similar energy storage applications. During the last several decades, different implementations of online parameter identification such as Kalman filters have been presented in literature. However, if the system is a moving EV during rapid acceleration or regenerative braking or when using heating or air conditioning, most of the existing works suffer from poor prediction of state and state estimation error (...)

Echoes of Corporate Social Responsibility: How and When Does CSR Influence Employees’ Promotive and Prohibitive Voices?Juan Wang, Zhe Zhang & Ming Jia - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 167 (2):253-269.
In this study, we examine whether, how, and when corporate social responsibility increases promotive and prohibitive voices in accordance with ethical climate theory and multi-experience model of ethical climate. Data from 382 employees at two time points are examined. Results show that CSR is positively related to promotive and prohibitive voices. Other-focused and self-focused climates mediate the relationship between CSR and the two types of voice. Moreover, humble leadership moderates the positive relationship between CSR and other-focused climate. Such leadership moderates (...)

An Exploratory Study of Young Students’ Core Virtues of E-Character Education: The Taiwanese Teachers’ Perspective.Chih-Ming Chang & Chien Chou - 2015 - Journal of Moral Education 44 (4):516-530.
The e-character education approach refers to systems of ethics education that pertain specifically to cyberspace. This exploratory study used a survey to collect 2495 teachers’ responses regarding virtues important to e-CE. Furthermore, in order to identify the teaching concerns associated with these most important virtues, this study used two focus groups that involved interviews with 16 teachers and Internet experts, as well as a content analysis of 92 posts from 72 teachers in an online course regarding ethical behavior in the (...)

Wang Yangming’s 王陽明 Philosophy and Modern Theories of Democracy: A Reconstructive Interpretation.Ming-Huei Lee - 2008 - Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy 7 (3):283-294.
Yangming’s theory of the original knowing (liangzhi 良知). In the 1950s there was a debate between Taiwanese liberals and the New Confucians over the relationship between the traditional Confucianism and modern democracy. Like Liu Shipei, the New Confucians justified modern democracy by means of Confucian philosophy (including that of Wang Yangming). For liberals, however, the Confucian tradition encompassed only the concept of positive liberty, which was irrelevant to or even incompatible with modern democracy. In this article, I try to (...)

As more and more multi-national companies expand their operations globally, their responsibilities extend beyond not only the economic motive of profitability but also other social and environmental factors. The objective of this article is to examine the impact of national culture and geographic environment on firms’ corporate social performance (CSP). Empirical tests are based on a global CSP database of companies from 49 countries. Results show that the Hofstede’s cultural dimensions are significantly associated with CSP. In addition, European companies are (...)

Prediction of Subcellular Localization of Apoptosis Protein Using Chou’s Pseudo Amino Acid Composition.Hao Lin, Hao Wang, Hui Ding, Ying-Li Chen & Qian-Zhong Li - 2009 - Acta Biotheoretica 57 (3):321-330.
Apoptosis proteins play an essential role in regulating a balance between cell proliferation and death. The successful prediction of subcellular localization of apoptosis proteins directly from primary sequence is much benefited to understand programmed cell death and drug discovery. In this paper, by use of Chou’s pseudo amino acid composition , a total of 317 apoptosis proteins are predicted by support vector machine . The jackknife cross-validation is applied to test predictive capability of proposed method. The predictive results show (...)

Echoes of CEO Entrepreneurial Orientation: How and When CEO Entrepreneurial Orientation Influences Dual CSR Activities.Zhe Zhang, Xin Wang & Ming Jia - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-21.
We explore the potential impact of CEO entrepreneurial orientation on firm choice of CSR activities. Integrating upper echelon theory and attention-based view of the firm, we find that CEO entrepreneurial orientation leads to more engagement in CSR innovation rather than corporate philanthropy. We find that the effect of CEO entrepreneurial orientation on firm choice of CSR activities varies under two situational contexts: state-owned enterprises and incoming/departing CEO. The hypotheses are tested using two different studies. Study 1 uses a cross-sectional survey (...)
