    Two Piazzi Smyth Comet Paintings.Carole Stott & David W. Hughes - 1989 - Annals of Science 46 (2):165-172.
Two paintings by Charles Piazzi Smyth have recently been given by the family to the National Maritime Museum, London. They are of the Great Comet 1843 I, and provide superb examples of the artistic skill of astronomers of that time and of one of the methods used to record astronomical subjects before the days of photography.
