Board Members in the Service Industry: An Empirical Examination of the Relationship Between Corporate Social Responsibility Orientation and Directorial Type. [REVIEW]Nabil A. Ibrahim, Donald P. Howard & John P. Angelidis - 2003 - Journal of Business Ethics 47 (4):393 - 401.
One area of business performance of particular interest to both scholars and practitioners is corporate social responsibility. The notion that organizations should be attentive to the needs of constituents other than shareholders has been investigated and vigorously debated for over two decades. This has provoked an especially rich and diverse literature investigating the relationship between business and society. As a result, researchers have urged the study of the profiles and backgrounds of corporate upper echelons in order to better understand this (...)

The Relationship Between Religiousness and Corporate Social Responsibility Orientation: Are There Differences Between Business Managers and Students?Nabil A. Ibrahim, Donald P. Howard & John P. Angelidis - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 78 (1-2):165-174.
The purpose of this paper is to determine whether there is a relationship between a person's degree of religiousness and corporate social responsibility orientation. A total of 411 managers and 506 students from seven universities were surveyed. The statistical analysis showed that religiousness does influence students' orientation toward the economic, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities of business. It does not, however, have a significant impact upon the managers' attitudes. When the "low religiousness" students and managers were compared, differences were found with (...)

Deep Learning Applied to Seismic Attribute Computation.Donald P. Griffith, S. Ahmad Zamanian, Jeremy Vila, Antoine Vial-Aussavy, John Solum, R. David Potter & Francesco Menapace - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (3):SE141-SE150.
We have trained deep convolutional neural networks to accelerate the computation of seismic attributes by an order of magnitude. These results are enabled by overcoming the prohibitive memory requirements typical of 3D DCNs for segmentation and regression by implementing a novel, memory-efficient 3D-to-2D convolutional architecture and by including tens of thousands of synthetically generated labeled examples to enhance DCN training. Including diverse synthetic labeled seismic in training helps the network generalize enabling it to accurately predict seismic attribute values on field-acquired (...)

Corporate Social Responsibility: A Comparative Analysis of Perceptions of Practicing Accountants and Accounting Students.Nabil A. Ibrahim, John P. Angelidis & Donald P. Howard - 2006 - Journal of Business Ethics 66 (2-3):157-167.
The results of a survey of 272 practicing accountants and 374 accounting students enrolled in six universities are analyzed. Differences and similarities between the two groups with regard to their attitudes toward corporate social responsibility are examined. The results indicate that the students exhibit greater concern about the ethical and discretionary components of corporate responsibility and a weaker orientation toward economic performance. No significant differences between the two groups were observed with respect to the legal dimension of corporate social responsibility. (...)

Studying the typical development of reading is key to understanding the precise deficits that underlie reading disabilities. An important correlate of efficient reading is the speed of naming arrays of simple stimuli such as letters and pictures. In this cross-sectional study, we examined developmental changes in visual processing that occurs during letter and object naming from childhood to early adulthood in terms of behavioral task efficiency, associated articulation and eye movement parameters, and the coordination between them, as measured by eye-voice (...)

  23. Realism/Antirealism and Epistemology.William P. Alston, Roderick M. Chisholm, Donald Davidson, Gilbert Harman, Richard Rorty & John R. Searle (eds.) - 1997 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
This landmark collection of essays by six renowned philosophers explores the implications of the contentious realism/antirealism debate for epistemology. The essays examine issues such as whether epistemology needs to be realist, the bearing of a realist conception of truth on epistemology, and realism and antirealism in terms of a pragmatist conception of epistemic justification. Richard Rorty's essay provides a critical commentary on the other five.

Psyche and Soma is a multi-disciplinary exploration of the conceptions of the human soul or mind and body, through the course of more than two thousand years of Western history. Thirteen specially commissioned chapters, each written by a recogized expert, discuss figures such as the physicians Hippocrates, Galen, Stahl, and Cabanis; theologians St Paul, Augustine, and Aquinas; and philosophers from Plato and Aristotle to Descartes, Leibniz, and La Mettrie. The chapters explore in chronlogical sequence the views of these writers on (...)

Excerpt: Can you imagine a non-observable, un-describable state?... There are trivialities that hide abysses... To solve the paradox of the very beginning of the world one has to reject dualistic ontology... From now on, all of the perceptions and ideas embedded in God's mind have never been anything other than descriptions so far and from now on.

The present volume is a welcome addition to the many monographs which have appeared. Its avowed purpose is two-fold: to show that scientific research properly understood is concerned with the discovery of the plans of God the Almighty Creator and the revealing of their intrinsic beauty and purpose; to guide scientists, and in general, public opinion on matters where science plays a leading part.

Further, we show that, with high probability, for random ordered graphs, G≤,p with edge probability image, D)=Θ, contrasting with the results for random graphs, Gp, given by Kim et al. [J.H. Kim, O. Introduction. In the opening passages of his De interpretatione, Aristotle provides a simple summary of how he thinks language relates to the mind and the mind to reality, a sketch which has often been called his "semantic triangle." He writes.

Donald Gelpi, SJ saw his life's work as an attempt to construct an integral systematic theology during a time when such projects were deemed passé and undesirable. Such attitudes did not deter him though, and he worked quietly in his office at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley for several decades developing such a system and teaching it in his classes and lectures. During those years, he produced works on theological method, sacramental theology, the Trinity, and Christology.Grounding his (...)
