Prosocial behavior is critical for the natural development of an individual as well as for promoting social relationships. Although this complex behavior results from gratuitous acts occurring between an agent and a recipient and a wealth of literature on prosocial behavior has investigated these actions, little is known about the effects on the recipient and the neurobiology underlying them. In this study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging to identify neural correlates of receiving prosocial behavior in the context of real-world (...)

  4. Lebenswelt Structures of Galilean Physics: The Case of Galileo's Pendulum. [REVIEW]Dušan I. Bjelic - 1996 - Human Studies 19 (4):409 - 432.
The aim of this paper is to give a self-reflective account of the building of Galileo's pendulum in order to discover what were the practical contingencies of building and using the pendulum for demonstrating the law of isochronism. In doing this, the unique Lebenswelt structures of Galilean physics are explicated through the ethnomethodological concepts developed by Harold Garfinkel. The presupposition is that the practical logic of Galilean physics is embedded in the instruments themselves. In building the pendulum and recovering its (...)

Reference in Context: On Donnellan's Essays on Reference, Language, and Mind.Dušan Dožudić - 2013 - Prolegomena 12 (1):121-140.
Donnellan’s recently published Essays on Reference, Language, and Mind collect his seminal papers from 1960s and 1970s. In most of them, he introduces and defends two major, related views in the theory of reference. The first one concerns the functioning of definite descriptions, and the second one the nature of singular reference. Donnellan argues that definite descriptions are ambiguous between their referential and their attributive use, and that descriptions used referentially function more or less as other referring expressions, proper names (...)

An Ethnomethodological Clarification of Husserl's Concepts of “Regressive Inquiry” and “Galilean Physics” by Means of Discovering Praxioms.Dušan I. Bjelić - 1995 - Human Studies 18 (2-3):189-225.
This paper offers an ethnomethodological clarification of Husserl's concepts of Galilean physics and regressive inquiry. It employs the reader's textual-practical operationalization of these concepts. With the use of a simple optical prism as a perspicuous case of a scientific instrument, the reader will be asked and instructed to make a self-reflexive inquiry into the practical contingencies of the prismatic field of reflection. The reader will discover that the geometric structures of the reflective field of the prism is an achievement and (...)

Induction in Aristotle's System of Scientific Knowledge.Dušan Galik - 2006 - Organon F: Medzinárodný Časopis Pre Analytickú Filozofiu 13 (4):495-505.
There are many disputes about induction in the logic and philosophy of science. One of the problem is that we often use the term „induction“ in different meanings. This is precisely the point of Aristotle, the first thinker who analyzed induction systematically. The aim of the paper is to show that we are confronted with at least four different meanings of induction in Aristotleś writings, to analyze them and to show the role of induction in acquiring scientific knowing and the (...)

The objective of this study is to provide an overview over the ethical issues relevant to the assessment, implementation, and use of smart-glasses. The purpose of the overview is to facilitate deliberation, decision making, and the formation of knowledge and norms for this emerging technology. An axiological question-based method for human cognitive enhancement including an extensive literature search on smart-glasses is used to identify relevant ethical issues. The search is supplemented with relevant ethical issues identified in the literature on human (...)

In this article, our aim is to examine the difference between the corporate social responsibility (CSR) practice of the multinational companies (MNCs) and of the domestic companies operating in Serbia, as well as the influence of internal self-regulations such as statements of corporate values and codes of conduct, and external self-regulations such as the implementation of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards on CSR practice. The CSR practice is observed in five CSR areas: employee relations, customer relations, environmental practice, (...)

We prove that if an ultrafilter ${\mathcal{L}}$ is not coherent to a Q-point, then each analytic non-σ-bounded topological group G admits an increasing chain ${\langle G_\alpha:\alpha < \mathfrak b(\mathcal L)\rangle}$ of its proper subgroups such that: (i) ${\bigcup_{\alpha}G_\alpha=G}$ ; and (ii) For every σ-bounded subgroup H of G there exists α such that ${H\subset G_\alpha}$ . In case of the group Sym(ω) of all permutations of ω with the topology inherited from ω ω this improves upon earlier results of S. (...)

  16. Patočka and English Sensualism and its Place in Modern Philosophy.Dušan Hruška - 2017 - Folia Philosophica 37:9--29.
The reception of the British empirical-sensualist tradition as a unique form of philosophising has its special place in the history of philosophy. Jan Patočka takes this fact into consideration, but his reception and interpretation of British empiricism is not purely historical. Patočka was trained by Husserl’s phenomenology and formed by Heidegger’s intellectual heritage, and this is reflected in his original philosophical thinking. Furthermore, his philosophical thought is highly influenced by a motif initially formed on the grounds of Husserl’s phenomenology as (...)

“Hearability” Versus “Hearership”: Comparing Garfinkel’s and Schegloff’s Accounts of the Summoning Phone.Dušan Bjelić - 2019 - Human Studies 42 (4):695-716.
This paper compares Harold Garfinkel’s phenomenologically informed “radical” ethnomethodology and Emanuel Schegloff’s “classical” Conversation Analysis, by focusing on their treatments of a ringing telephone as a summons. In their diverging accounts, Garfinkel and Schegloff use similar yet different terminologies in relation to the action of hearing. Garfinkel speaks of the “hearability” of the ringing phone, while Schegloff speaks of a recipient’s “hearership”. This lexical distinction is not irrelevant. “Hearership” stresses the obligations of parties to a phone call to speak and (...)

Intellectuals in Power: Social Patterns in the Formative Years of Second Yugoslavia.Dusan Boskovic - 2011 - Filozofija I Društvo 22 (3):121-135.
Political history of the Second Yugoslavia was continuously sacral, while secularization mainly took place within the arts? domain. The Cominform and split with the SSR opened up a space for greater freedom of creativity and for the abandonment of the socialist realism and its attempt to control the content of art. A third position on literature was promoted by Vladan Desnica. Politicka istorija druge Jugoslavije neprekidno je bila sakralna, a domen sekularizacije obuhvatao je mahom samo umetnost. Informbiro i razlaz sa (...)

    On Enlightenment and Taste: Outline of a Research Topic.Dusan Boskovic - 2007 - Filozofija I Društvo 18 (3):271-281.
The author puts forward a set of assumptions and possible context for examining the connection between the concepts of enlightenment and taste. Kant?s definition of enlightenment is accepted, with special emphasis on the sphere of religion. Applying this criterion, we may discern a powerful and influential religious current stemming from strictly speaking Church circles that denies the systematic and historical significance of the opus of Dositej Obradovic, who in his time was a protagonist of the European enlightenment. Such a revaluation (...)

Socialism and Culture: Do We Remember It at All?Dusan Boskovic - 2012 - Filozofija I Društvo 23 (3):313-332.
The immediate motive for organizing the Belgrade symposium?Socialism and Culture? held in late 1969 were prohibitions. After June 1968 there were about forty political interventions in Serbia, considerably more than in other Yugoslav republics. The conclusion that was reached was that cultural life was provincialized and underdeveloped. The author in this paper extends the topic to a more global level since the intentions of the dialogue allowed for that. Data on Goli Otok, provided by Milovan Djilas, fit well with these (...)

In histories of Serbian painting Sreten Maric is listed among the protagonists of socialist realism, and that on the basis of a single article - his criticism of an exhibition staged by the Association of Visual Artists of Serbia to the benefit of wounded veterans. Without denying the historical basis for this judgment, the author of the present paper pleads for a more nuance approach and propounds the thesis that socialist realism was primarily a complex pattern of social relations, and (...)
