The Chinese Communists' Evaluation of Confucius and the Political Aims of Their All-Out Campaign to "Criticize Confucius".Hsüan Mo - 1976 - Contemporary Chinese Thought 7 (3):4-39.
Although Mao Tse-tung opposes "honoring Confucius and reading the classics" and "promoting the old rites [li] and teaching the old thought," he admits that "during the (...)long period of Chinese feudal society, a brilliant ancient culture was created" and that the valuable cultural legacy "stretching from Confucius to Sun Yat-sen" must be accepted with a critical spirit. In private conversation, Mao's appraisal of Confucius has never been one of complete dismissal. The fact that a skillful opportunist like Kuo Mo-jo dares to maintain a point of view that supports Confucius over Mo Tzu and that Yang Jung-kuo, Kuan Feng, Lin Chin-shih, and Ch'e Tai's radical anti-Confucianism has not gone to the point of a total repudiation obviously has some connection with Mao's own attitude. How Do Chinese Firms Deal with Inter-Organizational Conflict?Shenjiang Mo, Simon A. Booth & Zhongming Wang - 2012 - Journal of Business Ethics 108 (1):121-129.
Based on social exchange and customer relationship marketing theory, this study examines how ethical leadership contributes to inter-organizational conflict management (task conflict (TC) and relationship conflict), (...)and the moderating role of task interdependence in these relationships. Data was collected from 81 suppliers and 45 corresponding managers of a large group company in China. Results show that ethical leadership is negatively associated with the levels of inter-organizational conflict, whether task or relationship. Task interdependence significantly moderates the relationship between ethical leadership and TC. Managerial implication in terms of creating sound buyersupplier relationship through an ethical perspective is discussed. (shrink)

Graphical Representation and Similarity Analysis of DNA Sequences Based on Trigonometric Functions.Guo-Sen Xie, Xiao-Bo Jin, Chunlei Yang, Jiexin Pu & Zhongxi Mo - 2018 - Acta Biotheoretica 66 (2):113-133.
In this paper, we propose two four-base related 2D curves of DNA primary sequences and their corresponding single-base related 2D curves. The constructions of these graphical (...) curves are based on the assignments of individual base to four different sinusoidal functions; then by connecting all these points on these four sinusoidal functions, we can get the F-B curves; similarly, by connecting the points on each of the four sinusoidal functions, we get the single-base related 2D curves. The proposed 2D curves are all strictly non degenerate. Then, a 8-component characteristic vector is constructed to compare similarity among DNA sequences from different species based on a normalized geometrical centers of the proposed curves. As examples, we examine similarity among the coding sequences of the first exon of beta-globin gene from eleven species, similarity of cDNA sequences of beta-globin gene from eight species, and similarity of the whole mitochondrial genomes of 18 eutherian mammals. The experimental results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. (shrink)

Is the Lateralized Categorical Perception of Color a Situational Effect of Language on Color Perception?Weifang Zhong, You Li, Yulan Huang, He Li & Lei Mo - 2018 - Cognitive Science 42 (1):350-364.
This study investigated whether and how a person's varied series of lexical categories corresponding to different discriminatory characteristics of the same colors affect his or her (...)perception of colors. In three experiments, Chinese participants were primed to categorize four graduated colorsspecifically dark green, light green, light blue, and dark blueinto green and blue; light color and dark color; and dark green, light green, light blue, and dark blue. The participants were then required to complete a visual search task. Reaction times in the visual search task indicated that different lateralized categorical perceptions of color corresponded to the various priming situations. These results suggest that all of the lexical categories corresponding to different discriminatory characteristics of the same colors can influence people's perceptions of colors and that color perceptions can be influenced differently by distinct types of lexical categories depending on the context. Genericity Sans Gen.John Collins - 2018 - Mind and Language 33 (1):34-64.
Generics are exception-admitting generalisations, which find expression in apparently diverse linguistic forms. A standard claim is that there is a hidden linguistic unity to genericity in (...)the form of a covert operator, Gen. This article surveys and rejects a range of considerations that purport to show Gen to be syntactically essential to the explanation of a range of linguistic phenomena connected to genericity. The conclusion reached is that genericity is not a specifically linguistic property insofar as it does not supervene upon any especial linguistic device; rather, genericity supervenes on broader cognitive competencies within linguistic constraints.
