  5. The Benefits of Self-Transcendence: Examining the Role of Values on Mental Health Among Adolescents Across Regions in China.Ping Liu, Xiaofeng Wang, Dan Li, Rongwei Zhang, Hui Li & Jingxin Han - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
As one of the foundations of existential positive psychology, self-transcendence can bring positive intrapersonal and interpersonal outcomes, especially in the COVID-19 era in which people are (...) suffering huge mental stress. Based on Schwartz's theory of human basic values, the current study combines variable-centered and person-centered approaches to examine the relationships between adolescents' values and mental health across two regions in China. The results generally showed that both self-enhancement and conservation values were positively correlated with depression and loneliness, while both self-transcendence and openness to change values negatively correlated with depression and loneliness. The results also showed that there were four value clusters, and, compared to adolescents in the self-focus and undifferentiated values cluster, all adolescents in the anxiety-free values cluster reported lower depression and loneliness, while all adolescents in the other-focus values cluster reported higher depression and loneliness. The differences between the two regional groups only emerged in depression. Specifically, adolescents in Shanghai have higher levels of depression than adolescents in Qingdao. This study provides some evidence for the new science of self-transcendence among adolescents and also sheds light on how we may improve the level of mental health during the COVID-19 era. (shrink)

CCII and FPGA Realization: A Multistable Modified Fourth-Order Autonomous Chuas Chaotic System with Coexisting Multiple Attractors.Fei Yu, Hui Shen, Li Liu, Zinan Zhang, Yuanyuan Huang, Binyong He, Shuo Cai, Yun Song, Bo Yin, Sichun Du & Quan Xu - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-17.
In this paper, a multistable modified fourth-order autonomous Chuas chaotic system is investigated. In addition to the dynamic characteristics of the third-order Chuas chaotic (...)system itself, what interests us is that this modified fourth-order autonomous Chuas chaotic system has five different types of coexisting attractors: double-scroll, single band chaotic attractor, period-4 limit cycle, period-2 limit cycle, and period-1 limit cycle. Then, an inductorless modified fourth-order autonomous Chuas chaotic circuit is proposed. The active elements as well as the synthetic inductor employed in this circuit are designed using second-generation current conveyors. The reason for using CCIIs is that they have high conversion rate and operation speed, which enable the circuit to work at a higher frequency range. The Multisim simulations confirm the theoretical estimates of the performance of the proposed circuit. Finally, using RK-4 numerical algorithm of VHDL 32-bit IQ-Math floating-point number format, the inductorless modified fourth-order autonomous Chuas chaotic system is implemented on FPGA for the development of embedded engineering applications based on chaos. The system is simulated and synthesized on Virtex-6 FPGA chip. The maximum operating frequency of modified Chuas chaotic oscillator based on FPGA is 180.180 MHz. This study demonstrates that the hardware-based multistable modified fourth-order autonomous Chuas chaotic system is a very good source of entropy and can be applied to various embedded systems based on chaos, including secure communication, cryptography, and random number generator. Healthcare WorkersStress When Caring for COVID-19 Patients: An Altruistic Perspective.Hui Wang, Yu Liu, Kaili Hu, Meng Zhang, Meichen Du, Haishan Huang & Xiao Yue - 2020 - Nursing Ethics 27 (7):1490-1500.
Background: When the contagious COVID-19 spread worldwide, the frontline staff faced unprecedented excessive work pressure and expectations of all of the society. Objective: The aim was (...)to explore healthcare workersstress and influencing factors when caring for COVID-19 patients from an altruistic perspective. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted in a tertiary hospital during the outbreak of COVID-19 between February and March 2020 in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in China. Data were collected from 1208 healthcare workers. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the data. Ethical considerations: Research ethics approval was obtained from Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Written informed consent was also received from participants. Results: Less than 60% of participants chose moderate or severe stress on all stressors, indicating a low stress level among healthcare workers. The main source of stress among frontline healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients came from the fear of being infected, the fear of family members being infected, and the discomfort caused by protective equipment. Frontline staff who were nurses, were married, and had worked more than 20 days suffered higher stress, whereas rescue staff showed lower stress. Conclusion: The healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19 had low stress level, although they still had the fear of being infected or uncomfortable feeling caused by personal protective equipment. A low stress level among healthcare workers indicated their professional devotion and altruism during COVID-19 epidemic. Medical institutions and the government should continue to strengthen infection prevention measures and provide more comprehensive care involving families of frontline healthcare workers, especially nurses and married staff. It will be a lesson to other countries that awaking healthcare workersinside motivation and providing necessary support from government and society were significant. (shrink)

Prediction and Application of Computer Simulation in Time-Lagged Financial Risk Systems.Hui Wang, Runzhe Liu, Yang Zhao & Xiaohui Du - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-10.
Based on the existing financial system risk models, a set of time-lag financial system risk models is established considering the influence brought by time-lag factors on (...) the financial risk system, and the dynamical behavior of this system is analyzed by using chaos theory. Through Matlab simulation, the bifurcation diagram and phase diagram of time-lag risk intensity and control intensity are plotted. The analysis shows that this kind of time-lag financial system risk model has complex dynamic behavior, different motion states will appear when different parameter values are selected, and the time-lag risk intensity parameter also has a very strong influence on the system motion. To ensure the operation of the financial system in a stable state, measures with certain delay effects must be taken to control the risk and to choose the appropriate time-lag control intensity, and too much or too little time-lag control intensity is not conducive to the benign operation of the system. Spatiotemporal Changes in the Urban Heat Island Intensity of Distinct Local Climate Zones: Case Study of Zhongshan District, Dalian, China.Jun Han, Jiatong Liu, Liang Liu & Yuanzhi Ye - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-9.
Intensified due to rapid urbanization and global warming-induced high temperature extremes, the urban heat island effect has become a major environmental concern for urban residents. Scientific (...)methods used to calculate the urban heat island intensity and its alleviation have become urgent requirements for urban development. This study is carried out in Zhongshan District, Dalian City, which has a total area of 43.85 km2 and a 27.5 km-long coastline. The mono-window algorithm was used to retrieve the land surface temperatures, employing Landsat remote sensing images, meteorological data, and building data from 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2019. In addition, the district was divided into local climate zones based on the estimated intensities and spatiotemporal variations of the heat island effect. The results show that, from 2003 to 2019, LCZs A and D shrank by 3.225 km2 and 0.395 km2, respectively, whereas LCZs B, C, and 16 expanded by 0.932 km2, 0.632 km2, and 2.056 km2, respectively. During this period, the maximum and minimum LSTs in Zhongshan increased by 1.365°C and 1.104°C, respectively. The LST and UHII levels of all LCZs peaked in 2019. The average LSTs of LCZs AC increased by 1.610°C, 0.880°C, and 3.830°C, respectively, and those of LCZs 16 increased by 2°C4°C. The UHIIs of LCZs A, C, and D increased by 0.730, 2.950, and 0.344, respectively, and those of LCZs 16 increased from 1.3702.977 to 3.7445.379. Overall, the regions with high LSTs are spatiotemporally correlated with high building densities. In this study, the land cover was then classified into four types using visual interpretation and object-oriented classification, including forested land, low vegetation, bare ground, and water. Besides, the buildings were categorized as LCZs 16, which, respectively, represented low-density low-rises buildings, low-density high-rises buildings, low-density super high-rises buildings, high-density low-rises buildings, high-density high-rises buildings, and high-density super high-rises buildings. Robust Control of Disturbed Fractional-Order Economical Chaotic Systems with Uncertain Parameters.Song Xu, Hui Lv, Heng Liu & Aijing Liu - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-13.
This paper focuses on the robust control of fractional-order economical chaotic system with parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. The dynamical behavior of FOECS is studied by (...)numerical simulation, and circuit implementations of FOECS are also given. Based on fractional-order Lyapunov stability theorems, a robust adaptive controller, which can guarantee that all signals remain bounded and the tracking error tends to a small region, is designed. The proposed method can be used to control a large range of fractional-order systems with system uncertainties. Fractional-order adaptation laws are constructed to update the estimation of adaptive parameters. Finally, the robustness and effectiveness of our control method are indicated by simulation results. EmployeeOrganization Pro-Environmental Values Fit and Pro-Environmental Behavior: The Role of SupervisorsPersonal Values.Hui Lu, Xia Liu, Hong Chen & Ruyin Long - 2019 - Science and Engineering Ethics 25 (2):519-557.
This study examines the relationship among the employeesorganization pro-environmental values fit, supervisorsPEVs and employeespro-environmental behaviors. Informed by the PEB, organizational values and employee (...)organization fit literature, we propose and test hypotheses that under egoistic, altruistic and biosphere-value orientations, EO PEVs fit versus non-fit have significant effects on employeesprivate-sphere PEB and public-sphere PEB, identifying supervisorsPEVs as a moderator. An empirical investigation indicates that the effect of EO PEVs fit on employeesprivate-sphere PEB and public-sphere PEB varies as the value orientation differs. More specifically, under the context of altruistic and biosphere-value orientations, if the organizational PEVs do not match the employeesPEVs, especially when the former exceeds the latter, employeesPEB will rise as the organizational PEVs increase. As for egoistic value orientation, when organizational PEVs exceed employeesPEVs, not only will public-sphere PEB stop decreasing and tend to stabilize, but also private-sphere PEB will rise to a slight degree. Furthermore, compared with altruistic and biospheric values dimensions, supervisors who promote egoistic PEVs will have a more significant effect on the relationship between global EO PEVs fit and employeesPEB. Finally, we suggest that the goals of an organization and its supervisors need to be combined within the actual situation of Chinese corporations to truly implement corporate green practices by balancing the profit goal and the environmental goal. Using 3D seismic attributes and the support of a clay model that served as an analog, we mapped and analyzed a 32 km long, northsouth-striking, right (...)-lateral fault in the Woodford Shale, Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma, USA. Volumetric coherence, dip azimuth, and curvature delineated an approximately 1.5 km wide damage zone with multiple secondary faults, folds, and flexures. The clay analog enabled us to identify these features as belonging to a complex transpressional Riedel structure. We also suggest that the damage zone contains dense subseismic fractures associated with multiscale faulting and secondary folding that may correspond to highly permeable features within the Woodford Shale. Secure Communication Scheme Based on a New 5D Multistable Four-Wing Memristive Hyperchaotic System with Disturbance Inputs.Fei Yu, Zinan Zhang, Li Liu, Hui Shen, Yuanyuan Huang, Changqiong Shi, Shuo Cai, Yun Song, Sichun Du & Quan Xu - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-16.
By introducing a flux-controlled memristor model with absolute value function, a 5D multistable four-wing memristive hyperchaotic system with linear equilibrium points is proposed in this paper (...). The dynamic characteristics of the system are studied in terms of equilibrium point, perpetual point, bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponential spectrum, phase portraits, and spectral entropy. This system is of the group of systems that have coexisting attractors. In addition, the circuit implementation scheme is also proposed. Then, a secure communication scheme based on the proposed 5D multistable FWMHS with disturbance inputs is designed. Based on parametric modulation theory and Lyapunov stability theory, synchronization and secure communication between the transmitter and receiver are realized and two message signals are recovered by a convenient robust high-order sliding mode adaptive controller. Through the proposed adaptive controller, the unknown parameters can be identified accurately, the gain of the receiver system can be adjusted continuously, and the disturbance inputs of the transmitter and receiver can be suppressed effectively. Thereafter, the convergence of the proposed scheme is proven by means of an appropriate Lyapunov functional and the effectiveness of the theoretical results is testified via numerical simulations. Dynamic Analysis, Circuit Design, and Synchronization of a Novel 6D Memristive Four-Wing Hyperchaotic System with Multiple Coexisting Attractors.Fei Yu, Li Liu, Hui Shen, Zinan Zhang, Yuanyuan Huang, Changqiong Shi, Shuo Cai, Xianming Wu, Sichun Du & Qiuzhen Wan - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-17.
In this work, a novel 6D four-wing hyperchaotic system with a line equilibrium based on a flux-controlled memristor model is proposed. The novel system is inspired (...) from an existing 5D four-wing hyperchaotic system introduced by Zarei. Fundamental properties of the novel system are discussed, and its complex behaviors are characterized using phase portraits, Lyapunov exponential spectrum, bifurcation diagram, and spectral entropy. When a suitable set of parameters are chosen, the system exhibits a rich repertoire of dynamic behaviors including double-period bifurcation of the quasiperiod, a single two-wing, and four-wing chaotic attractors. Further analysis of the novel system shows that the multiple coexisting attractors can be observed with different system parameter values and initial values. Moreover, the feasibility of the proposed mathematical model is also presented by using Multisim simulations based on an electronic analog of the model. Finally, the active control method is used to design the appropriate controller to realize the synchronization between the proposed 6D memristive hyperchaotic system and the 6D hyperchaotic Yang system with different structures. The RouthHurwitz criterion is used to prove the rationality of the controller, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed synchronization method are proved by numerical simulations.
