Phenomenology in Action in Psychotherapy.Ian Rory Owen - unknown
Given that the proofs of the exact essences like mathematics are the achievements of the natural sciences and technology, it is to be seen what the empirical impact will be from inexact morphological essences. This chapter compares psychometrics and the numericisation of meaning in natural psychological science with the pure psychological approach. The argument below is that empirical methods need to be suitable for the form of being that is researched. For instance, randomised control trial methodology is suitable for testing (...)

In Lieu of a Review of the Latest English Translation of Ideas I: A Reading of Husserl's Original Intent and its Relevance for Empirical Qualitative Psychology.Ian Rory Owen - 2015 - Indo-Pacific Journal of Phenomenology 15 (1):1-13.
Husserl's phenomenology provides theory for empirical science and other practices in the form of transcendental philosophy after Kant. This phenomenology is a reflection on mental objects in relation to mental processes, some of which are shared in culture: a theoretical framework that grounds and co-ordinates theory-production for empirical practice. The importance of the original work of Edmund Husserl for contemporary empirical psychology is that it provides the conceptual justification for the methods employed and the interpretative stances taken. Informed theoretically by (...)

  20. Still, Nothing: Mammy and Black Asexual Possibility.Ianna Hawkins Owen - 2018 - Feminist Review 120 (1):70-84.
Although many iterations of the mammy in the last two centuries have received analytical attention, the construction of this figure as asexual or undesiring and undesirable remains to be interrogated. This strategy of ‘saying nothing’ is then explored in (...)

This response chooses as the sole topic for its concern the central question ‘how can Husserl's approach to consciousness be used to inform cognitive science?’ This paper is a response to the papers on phenomenology, in particular the one by Varela. The response makes brief comments on Husserl's phenomenology and the breadth of cognitive science is alluded to as well as its wide spectrum of phenomena. The authors are agreed that there could be a Husserlian cognitive science, but it would (...)
