A Dichotomy for the Number of Ultrapowers.Ilijas Farah & Saharon Shelah - 2010 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 10 (1):45-81.
We prove a strong dichotomy for the number of ultrapowers of a given model of cardinality ≤ 2ℵ0 associated with nonprincipal ultrafilters on ℕ. They are either all isomorphic, or else there are 22ℵ0 many nonisomorphic ultrapowers. We prove the analogous result for metric structures, including C*-algebras and II1 factors, as well as their relative commutants and include several applications. We also show that the CAF001-algebra [Formula: see text] always has nonisomorphic relative commutants in its ultrapowers associated with nonprincipal ultrafilters (...)

We consider various quotients of the C*-algebra of bounded operators on a nonseparable Hilbert space, and prove in some cases that, assuming some restriction of the Generalized Continuum Hypothesis, there are many outer automorphisms.

A Professor’s Moral Thinking at the Abstract Level Versus The Professor’s Moral Thinking in the Real Life Situation.Mladen Pečujlija, Ilija Ćosić & Velibor Ivanišević - 2011 - Science and Engineering Ethics 17 (2):299-320.
We conducted an on-line survey to investigate the professor’s idea of “morality” and then to compare their moral thinking at the abstract level with their moral thinking in the real life situations by sampling 257 professors from the University of Novi Sad. We constructed questionnaire based on related theoretical ethical concepts. Our results show (after we performed exploratory factor analysis) that the professor’s idea of “morality” consists of the three moral thinking patterns which are simultaneously activated during the process of (...)

Several philosophers have developed theological perspectives out of Heidegger's ontology. Yet the question of God in Heidegger's thought itself has never received full elucidation. In this revealing new study, George Kovacs poses the problem of analyzing the idea of God as a process of questioning and thus subjects Heidegger's phenomenological existentialism to a process of exposition Heidegger himself employed.

    Continuum-Many Boolean Algebras of the Form [Image] Borel.Michael Ray Oliver - 2004 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 69 (3):799 - 816.
We examine the question of how many Boolean algebras, distinct up to isomorphism, that are quotients of the powerset of the naturals by Borel ideals, can be proved to exist in ZFC alone. The maximum possible value is easily seen to be the cardinality of the continuum $2^{\aleph_{0}}$ ; earlier work by Ilijas Farah had shown that this was the value in models of Martin's Maximum or some similar forcing axiom, but it was open whether there could be fewer in (...)

Discerning the Good in the Letters and Sermons of Augustine turns to the vast collection of moral advice found in Augustine's letters and sermons, mining these neglected and highly illuminating texts for examples of Augustine's application of his own moral concepts. It focuses on letters and sermons in which Augustine offers concrete advice on how to interact with the various goods relevant to social and political life. A special set of goods reappears throughout the letters and sermons, namely sexual intimacy (...)

The purpose of this study was to examine the cross-cultural validity of the Organizational Stressor Indicator for Sport Performers scale by investigating its psychometric properties with Ghanaian footballers. The study particularly sought to assess in the Ghanaian context, 1, the convergence validity and reliability of the OSI-SP scale, 2, the discriminant validity of the OSI-SP scale to understand the applicability of its factor structure, and 3, whether the OSI-SP hypothesized model fits the data collected within the study context. Aiming to study the pore structure and its impact on shale oil enrichment, a total of nine lacustrine shales from the Qingshankou Formation in the Songliao Basin were subjected to low-pressure gas sorption of CO2 and N2 and mercury intrusion capillary pressure measurements. The combination of the LPGS and MICP methods demonstrates that the pore volumes of these shales are mainly associated with mesopores, whereas the micropores and macropores are relatively undeveloped. The correlation between the shale compositions and pore volumes (...)

Coronary artery bypass grafts, including saphenous vein grafts or left internal mammary artery grafts, are recently applied to treat coronary artery aneurysm. Surgical outcomes are considered to be related to surgical strategies and the size of the CAA. However, the understanding of the relationship between the surgical outcomes and the abovementioned factors is limited. Previous studies related to CABG treatments have shown hemodynamic studies could help evaluate surgical outcomes through graft mass flow rate, wall shear stress, and oscillatory shear index. (...)

    Mis on filosoofia?Indrek Reiland - 2009 - Studia Philosophica Estonica 2 (1):19-31.
Minu eesmärgiks antud artiklis on pakkuda üht vaadet filosoofia olemuse, eesmärgi ja rolli kohta kaasaja maailmas.

W naukach ekonomicznych kapitał to pojȩcie wȩższe niż "zasób".
