Two Robust Imaging Methodologies for Challenging Environments: Wave-Equation Dispersion Inversion of Surface Waves and Guided Waves and Supervirtual Interferometry + Tomography for Far-Offset Refractions.Jing Li, Kai Lu, Sherif Hanafy & Gerard Schuster - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (4):SM27-SM37.
Two robust imaging technologies are reviewed that provide subsurface geologic information in challenging environments. The first one is wave-equation dispersion inversion of surface waves and guided waves for the shear-velocity and compressional-velocity models, respectively. The other method is traveltime inversion for the velocity model, in which supervirtual refraction interferometry is used to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of far-offset refractions. We have determined the benefits and liabilities of both methods with synthetic seismograms and field data. The benefits of WD are that (...)

(Manfredo Tafuri’s Critique of Architectural Ideology).Asma Mehan & Iman Vaghefi - 2018 - FAZA VA DIALECTIC 7:1-6.

The aim of this phenomenological research study carried out in Iran was to capture the meaning of patients' rights from the lived experiences of patients and their companions. To achieve this, 12 semistructured interviews were conducted during 2005 in a teaching hospital in Tehran with patients and/or their companions. In addition, extensive field notes were compiled during the interviews. The data were analyzed using Benner's thematic analysis. The themes captured were classified into three main categories, with certain themes identified within (...)

Objective Information in the Empiricist View of von Weizsäcker.Iman Khatam & Afshin Shafiee - 2014 - Foundations of Science 19 (3):241-255.
We analyze von Weizsäcker’s view regarding the concept of information in physics. In his view, information arises from the reduction of properties of a physical object to their logical descriptive propositions. The smallest element of a lattice of propositions is an atom of information which is considered as the essence of every physical identity including position space. von Weizsäcker calls this element, “ur”. Moreover, Biological evolution is described in terms of enhancement of the variety of forms. Form could be also (...)

  24. A Path to the Oasis: Sharī‘Ah and Reason in Islamic Moral Epistemology.Edward Omar Moad - 2007 - International Journal for Philosophy of Religion 62 (3):135 - 148.
I propose a framework for comparative Islamic—Western ethics in which the Islamic categories "Islam, Iman," and "Ihsan" are juxtaposed with the concepts of obligation, value, and virtue, respectively. I argue that "shari'a" refers to both the obligation component and the entire structure of the Islamic ethic; suggesting a suspension of the understanding of "shari'a" as simply Islamic "law," and an alternative understanding of "usul al-fiqh" as a moral epistemology of obligation. I will test this approach by addressing the question (...)

Exploring Ways to Provide Education in Conflict Zones: Implementation and Challenges.Kamal J. I. Badrasawi, Iman Osman Ahmed & Iyad M. Eid - 2018 - Intellectual Discourse 26 (2):567-594.
Millions of children in conflict-affected countries are deprived of their fundamental rights to education. Using the qualitative exploratory research method, this study aims to explore ways of providing education to such children, and to identify the challenges facing their implementation. It also presents two short case studies conducted on Palestinian and Syrian refugees residing in Malaysia to explore their perceptions towards their education in their current situation and future orientation. The results show that despite the educational programmes initiated by various (...)

Unintended Consequences? The Commodification of Ideas in Tertiary Education and Their Effects on Muslim Students.Anke Iman Bouzenita & Bronwyn Wood - 2018 - Intellectual Discourse 26 (2):883-902.
Islamic education, from a holistic point of view, is more than just the direct transmission of the pure Islamic sciences. It encompasses other branches of specialisation and ideally accompanies Muslims, through reflections of the Islamic worldview, during their formal and informal formation. This paper reflects how, in the contemporary tertiary education in the Islamic world, commodified concepts stemming from a non-Islamic worldview are being proliferated, and what the expected results are for Muslim students. The paper expounds on differences in worldview (...)

  29. Existence Does Not Have Any Extension: Sohrawardi\'s Theory About Existence Not Having Any Real Extension and its Usage in the Realm of the Necessary Being Through Itself.R. Akbari - 2012 - Metaphysik 3 (11):33-48.
Theories about the dawn of "principality of existence" or "principality of quiddity" stand in the realm of "confusion of term and concept fallacy". It is true that asalat as a term appeared for the first time in Mirdamad's works such as Taqwim al-Iman to mention the problem of principality of existence, but we should notice that its meaning as a concept can be tracked in Suhrawadi's works. If by the term asalat we mean having real extension, as it is (...)

    Night Time Vehicle Detection.Iman A. Mohammed & Hasan Fleyeh - 2012 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 21 (2):143-165.
. Night driving is one of the major factors which affects traffic safety. Although detecting oncoming vehicles at night time is a challenging task, it may improve traffic safety. If the oncoming vehicle is recognised in good time, this will motivate drivers to keep their eyes on the road. The purpose of this paper is to present an approach to detect vehicles at night based on the employment of a single onboard camera. This system is based on detecting vehicle headlights (...)
