Hindu dini geleneğinde efsane ve mitolojik hikayeler büyük öneme sahiptir. Hindu kutsal metinleri sayısız mitik anlatı ile doludur. Birçok tabiatüstü figür ve unsur ile bezeli bu anlatıların maksadı ise genel anlamda insanları uyarmak, doğru davranışları öğreterek doğru yola yönlendirmek, yanlış davranışlardan alıkoymak, tanrıların yüceliğini övmek, evrenin, varlıkların yaratılışını açıklamak vb. hususlardır. Efsanelerin başkahramanları çoğunlukla tanrılardır. Hinduizm’in yok edici tanrısı olarak nitelendirilen, büyük tanrılarından biri olan Şiva’nın merkezde olduğu birçok efsane bulunmaktadır. Şiva’nın yüceliği, mutlak hakikat oluşu ve müşfikliğinin yanı sıra, gazabı, (...) yok ediciliği ve dünyaya karşı kayıtsızlığı da bu anlatıların konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Şiva’nın çok yönlülüğünü yansıtan bu efsaneler Hinduizm’in en büyük ikinci mezhebi Şivacılık’ın felsefi ve teolojik temellerinin oluşturulmasında büyük bir yer ve öneme sahiptir. Efsanelerin kılavuzluğunda Hindu tanrısı Şiva’nın anlaşılması ile Şivacılık’ın ve daha genel anlamda Hinduizm’in tanrı anlayışına ve tanrı kavramına yüklenen anlamlara dair daha sağlam analizler yapılabilecektir. Şiva’nın Hindu tanrıları içinde sahip olduğu yer ve önemin vurgulanması, onun gerçekleştirdiği olağanüstü fiillerin farklı şekillerde yorumlanması ve değerlendirilmesinin yanı sıra aktarılma maksatları çeşitlilik gösteren bu efsaneler, Hindu inancı ve kültürünü açısından önem taşıyan birçok öğenin anlaşılması açısından da faydalı birer örnektir. In the first of these two lectures Professor Hart is concerned with certain controversies and changes of attitude towards the question of moral guilt—mens rea,’ the guilty mind’—in criminal proceedings according to English law. There is, on the one hand and at one extreme, the attitude of the McNaughten Rules which excludes guilt only in the case of a ‘defect of reason’; at the other extreme there is the modern position, represented by Lady Wootton according to which the conception of (...) metis rea should be dropped altogether—criminal proceedings are concerned with ‘social hygiene’ and have nothing to do with responsibility: the question of responsibility comes up only after a verdict has been reached in estimating what steps are likely to have the best consequences for the ‘criminal’ and for society. Between these extremes Professor Hart takes a kind of middle course, what he calls ‘a moderate form of the new doctrine’: ‘Under this scheme mens rea would continue to be a necessary condition of liability to be investigated and settled before conviction except so far as it relates to mental abnormality. The innovation would be that the accused person would not be able to adduce any form of mental abnormality as a bar to conviction. The question of his mental abnormality would under this scheme be investigated only after conviction and would primarily be concerned with his present rather than his past mental state’. He admits that there are some practical difficulties against this view, but he does not consider the theoretical difficulty that the theory does away with the principle that criminal conviction must be based on guilt and responsibility. Kavramlar doğru anlamlandırılmadığı takdirde meselelerin anlaşılması noktasında yanlış sonuçlara varmanın kaçınılmaz olduğu bir hakikattir. Fıtrat kavramı bu manada insanın neliği bağlamında başat kavram olarak her daim farklı değerlendirmelere konu olmuştur. İnsanın, gerek kendisini var eden Allah ile olan ilişkisi gerekse hemcinsleriyle ve içerisinde yaşadığı âlemle ilişkisi çerçevesinde bu kavramın anlam alanının tespiti yine ait olduğu dünya üzerinden yapıldığı zaman konu hakkında doğru sonuçların elde edilmesine imkân tanıyacaktır. Kur’ân ve hadislerde yerini bulan fıtrat kavramının anlam alanına yönelik çalışmaların bu alanlarda derinlemesine (...) tahlili noktasında söz konusu metinleri, kendi iç bütünlükleri ve birbirleriyle olan ilişkileri bağlamında meseleyi ele alması, en sağlıklı yol olacaktır. Bu çalışmada kavramın önce sözlük anlamı, türevleri üzerinden ele alınmış daha sonra Kur’ân ve hadislerde geçtiği durumları, belirtilen usûl üzerinden değerlendirmeye tâbi tutulmuştur. Sonuç olarak luğavî anlamı da dikkate alınarak fıtrat kavramı ile Kur’ân’da insanın Allah’la ilişkisine, hadislerde ise insanın doğasındaki sâfiyete ve insanlarla olan ilişkisinde dikkat gerektiren yönüne vurgu yapıldığı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Le point de vue d’Hérodote sur les guerres médiques, et particulièrement la bataille de Salamine en 480 avant notre ère, n’est pas totalement conforme à la bipolarisation grec/barbare, qui organise et hiérarchise les individus et les groupes vivant autour de la Méditerranée à l’époque classique. En effet Hérodote est un métis d’Halicarnasse en Asie mineure, et il s’amuse plutôt à décrire dans cet engagement naval la provocation d’Artémisia, reine de sa cité en 480. Celle-ci, également métissée, prouve qu’une cité grecque (...) peut être dirigée par une femme, y compris à la guerre. Artémisia, particulièrement avisée, se conduit certes de façon déloyale mais avec une adresse telle que les dieux semblent avec elle. En adoptant le point de vue du métissage, celui d’Hérodote, il s’agit ici de montrer que l’épisode ne valide ni ne renverse la hiérarchie grec/barbare mais révèle les résistances d’une autre réalité grecque, celle d’un monde mélangé, où les femmes ne sont pas toujours soumises aux hommes suivant les critères de l’Athènes du ve siècle. An aspect of the question of the relationship between reason and faith concerns the compatibility between philosophy and religious commitment. I begin by considering some attempts that have been made in both the analytic and Continental traditions to divorce philosophy from the life of religious faith as far as possible: in particular, I discuss Martin Heidegger’s critique of the very idea of a ‘Christian philosophy’ and Bertrand Russell’s criticism of Aquinas for not living up to the Socratic ideal of following (...) the argument wherever it leads. I then seek further to develop these criticisms by reviewing the current debate around the problem of evil in philosophy of religion as a case study of the dangers and drawbacks of religious commitment in philosophy. I conclude with some comments on the connection between ideology and philosophy, and claim that much of what passes as Christian philosophy is ideological as opposed to rational or truth-seeking in character. The problem of evil is regularly regarded as posing a serious threat to theistic belief. However, contemporary philosophers of religion have overlooked the ways in which this problem has been, or could be, handled by theists committed to the metaphysics of idealism. In seeking to redress this lacuna, I turn to the systems of the British idealists, popular in the late nineteenth century though now out of favour, and in particular the work of F.H. Bradley, while also drawing parallels with (...) the Advaita Vedanta school of Hinduism. The central argument of this paper is that these idealist traditions have greater resources to adequately deal with the problem of evil than comparatively mainstream theist views. While standard forms of theism struggle to make sense of the facts of evil, or are even resoundly defeated by them, the conception of divinity suggested or developed by the British idealists offers possibilities for innovative and fruitful ways of thinking about the relationship between God and evil. These developments in the recent and distant past only serve to highlight the importance of documenting Australasia's great contribution to philosophy ... Tanrı’nın varlığına dair getirilen argümanlar, başarılı kabul edildiği taktirde en az bir tanrının var olduğu gösterir. Acaba kanıtların gösterdiği özelliklere sahip başka tanrılar da var mıdır? Bu sorun, Tanrı’nın tekliği problemi olarak bilinir ve özellikle orta çağ felsefesinde detaylı olarak tartışılmıştır. İslam kelamcılarının bu bağlamda Tanrı’nın tekliğini göstermek için verdikleri en önemli argümanlardan biri de “burhân-ı temânü”dür. Burhân-ı temânünün modal versiyonuna göre, her mümkün duruma gücü yeten ve iradesinde özgür iki tanrının iradeleri mümkün bir durumda çelişkiye yol açar. Dolayısıyla bu (...) özelliklere sahip iki tanrı varsaymak problemlidir. Bu makale, bahsi geçen argümanın başarılı olduğunu kabul ederek, her mümkün duruma gücü yeten ama iradeleri zorunlu olarak aynı iki tanrının mümkün olup olmadığını tartışıyor. Bu alternatifin söz konusu olabileceği senaryoları ele alarak her bir senaryonun problemli sonuçlara yol açtığını savunuyor. There is unquestionably a plethora of details and mysteries regarding the mind and the body. However, with the advent of psychopharmacology (the study of how psychedelics inform or alter brain states) there are more issues at hand. Do psychedelics allow us to access deeper areas of our consciousness? Are we having a spiritual experience under the influence of psychedelics? Dr. Rick Strassman does not want to continue asking these rather conspiratorial-like questions. Instead, Dr. Strassman believes that there is one special, (...) endogenous psychedelic, synthesized within the human physiological framework: N, N-Dymthethyltryptamine. Dr. Strassman concludes that this chemical is produced within and around the pineal gland, and is often the catalyst for spiritual and religious experiences. I will explore this topic further under the framework of discovering whether a naturalistic type explanation of spiritual experiences accounts for all types of spiritual experiences and whether one may be rational or justified in believing in God if a naturalist could explain spiritual experiences.
