The Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Working Memory Training in Healthy Young Adults.Yufeng Ke, Ningci Wang, Jiale Du, Linghan Kong, Shuang Liu, Minpeng Xu, Xingwei An & Dong Ming - 2019 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 13:421402.
Working memory (WM) is a fundamental cognitive ability to support complex thought, but it is limited in capacity. WM training has shown the potential to make benefit for those in need. Many studies have shown the potential of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to transiently enhance WM performance by delivering low current to the brain cortex of interest via electrodes on the scalp. TDCS has also been revealed as a promising intervention to augment WM training in a few studies. However, (...)

Reciprocal Effects Among Parental Homework Support, Effort, and Achievement? An Empirical Investigation.Jianzhong Xu, Jianxia Du, Shengtian Wu, Hailey Ripple & Amanda Cosgriff - 2018 - Frontiers in Psychology 9.
The present study investigates reciprocal influences of parental homework support, effort, and math achievement, using two waves of data from 336 9th-graders. Results revealed that higher prior autonomy-oriented support and homework effort resulted in higher subsequent achievement. Higher prior content-oriented support led to higher subsequent effort, but lower subsequent achievement. Additionally, higher prior effort led to higher subsequent autonomy-oriented support. Furthermore, our results supported the structural path invariance over gender. The current investigation advances extant research, by differentiating two forms of (...)

Investigation of Fire-Fighting Evacuation Indication System in Industrial Plants Based on Virtual Reality Technology.Zhi Tang, Die Zhang, Jiajing Du, Wenlan Bao, Weiran Zhang & Jiaqin Liu - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-12.
The fire safety of industrial buildings has always been a great concern. An excellent evacuation indicator system can guide the personnel to escape quickly, thus reducing the casualties. In this study, we present a virtual simulation fire scene based on virtual reality to explore the impact of different colors, brightness values, and flashing frequencies on escape time in case of fire emergencies. The presented scene can help shorten the time required for evacuation in an industrial plant by identifying the escape (...)

Do Critical Reviews Affect Box Office Revenues Through Community Engagement and User Reviews?Ya-Ling Chiu, Jiangze Du, Yide Sun & Jying-Nan Wang - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
With advances in technology and the popularity of the Internet, consumers increasingly rely on various sources of electronic word-of-mouth, such as online user reviews and critical reviews, in their decision-making processes. Despite general consensus on the importance of eWOM and the ability of critical reviews to influence product sales, very little is known about the mediation between critical reviews and user reviews. Therefore, we used path analysis to examine how critical reviews and user reviews simultaneously affect box office revenues using (...)

In search of well-established evaluative criteria for the emerging qualitative methods of L2 affective variables.Jiayi Du - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Qualitative research is marked by context sensitivity with an inclusion of the participants’ points of view and setting, how they can affect how participants feel and how this feeling is captured and interpreted by researchers. This is the value of exploring affective variables through qualitative research. The present study focuses on the qualitative studies of L2 affective variables in recent years led by the complexity dynamic systems theory. This new line of research has employed innovative research methods compatible with the (...)

Study on Amplitude Modulation Principle of Chaotic System.Jian-Rong Du, Chun-Lai Li, Kun Qian, Zhao-Yu Li & Wen Li - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-13.
Exploring the amplitude modulation phenomenon of chaotic signal has become a subject of great concern in recent years. This paper mainly concentrates on the preliminary study on amplitude modulation principle of a chaotic system. First, two 3D chaotic systems with quadratic product terms are introduced for studying the amplitude modulation phenomenon of chaotic signal. It is found that the signal amplitude of the first system can be controlled by partial quadratic coefficient. But for the second system, none of nonlinear coefficient (...)

Pedestrians’ psychological preferences for urban street lighting with different color temperatures.Xinyi Hao, Xin Zhang, Jiangtao Du, Meichen Wang & Yalan Zhang - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
White LEDs, which have been widely used in the urban street lighting, are increasingly applied to replace traditional HPS lamps with a lower CCT. Generally, studies on the CCT of street lighting focus on providing safe functional lighting for vehicle drivers. However, it is still unknown how the street light color can affect pedestrians’ perception and preferences with respect to lighting levels and ambient temperature. In this study, a wide range of CCTs was measured for urban street lighting in Beijing, China, (...)

Leader’s strategies for designing the promotional path of regional brand competitiveness in the context of economic globalization.Pei Li, Jianguo Du & Fakhar Shahzad - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
In the era of economic globalization, the competitiveness of products on a global scale is increasingly achieved through effective and sustainable strategies for brand development by the leaders. This paper conducts an empirical study on regional brand competitiveness influencing factors. A research model was proposed and tested by employing structural equation modeling. Data analysis was conducted using 214 valid questionnaires from two major producing areas in Jilin Province, China. Research results show that Brand Market and Government Guidance directly and positively (...)

The dynamic evolution of collaborative networks in sustainable development: Untying impact of environmental policy in China using network-based text analysis approach.Weihua Wang, Jianguo Du, Fakhar Shahzad, Xiangyi Duan & Xiaowen Zhu - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
As one of the key subjects of multi-center governance of environmental concerns, public perception is crucial in forming and implementing environmental policy. Based on data science research theory and the original theory of public perception, this study proposes a research framework to analyze environmental policy through network text analysis. The primary contents are bidirectional encoder representation from transformers-convolution neural network sentiment tendency analysis, word frequency characteristic analysis, and semantic network analysis. The realism of the suggested framework is demonstrated by using (...)

The Influence of Fair Value Measurement on Radical Financing of Irrational Managers Based on Fixed Effects Model and Fisher Permutation Test.Wei Wang, Xiao-Hui Qu, Jian-Ju Du & Jia-Ming Zhu - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-9.
Adopting fair value measurement may bring more earnings fluctuations and induce irrational psychology and radical financing behavior of managers. Based on behavioral corporate governance theory, using the sample of Chinese A-share nonfinancial listed companies during 2007–2017, this paper empirically examines the regulatory effect of fair value measurement, that is, whether fair value measurement affects the company's financing decisions when managers have irrational psychological characteristics, i.e., overconfidence. The study found that overconfident managers of the company that have fair value measurement assets (...)

Adaptive Evolution of Defense Ability Leads to Diversification of Prey Species.Jian Zu, Jinliang Wang & Jianqiang Du - 2014 - Acta Biotheoretica 62 (2):207-234.
In this paper, by using the adaptive dynamics approach, we investigate how the adaptive evolution of defense ability promotes the diversity of prey species in an initial one-prey–two-predator community. We assume that the prey species can evolve to a safer strategy such that it can reduce the predation risk, but a prey with a high defense ability for one predator may have a low defense ability for the other and vice versa. First, by using the method of critical function analysis, (...)
