Exploring Factors Affecting Digital Piracy Using the Norm Activation and UTAUT Models: The Role of National Culture.Godwin Udo, Kallol Bagchi & Moutusy Maity - 2016 - Journal of Business Ethics 135 (3):517-541.
We develop and use an integrated individual-level model to explain the driving forces behind digital piracy practice in two nations. The proposed model combines the Norm Activation model and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology models. This study also explores the effect of culture on intention to practice DP in two nations: US and India. A survey instrument was used to collect data from 231 US and 331 Indian participants. Use of the integrated model proves to be a (...)

The Sentence in Language and Cognition is about the significant role of the sentence in linguistic cognition and in the practical domains of human existence. Dr. Tista Bagchi has written a comprehensive assessment of the structure and cognitive function of the sentence and the clause in the context of real-world discourse and activities. The notions of sentencehood and clausehood with special reference to the semantic histories of the terms sentence and clause, including their ethical, legal, and administrative uses, are assessed. 7. Cognition, Modules, and Modes of Perception.Tista Bagchi - manuscript
Perceptual and recursion-based faculties have long been recognized to be vital constituents of human (and, in general, animal) cognition. However, certain faculties such as the visual and the linguistic faculty have come to receive far more academic and experimental attention, in recent decades, than other recognized categories of faculties. This paper seeks to highlight the imbalance in these studies and bring into sharper focus the need for further in-depth philosophical treatments of faculties such as especially hearing, touch, and proprioception, besides (...)

Morally Right Action Under Silence and Disempowerment.Tista Bagchi - 2006 - The Proceedings of the Twenty-First World Congress of Philosophy 9:161-166.
This paper seeks to address the relationship between two key areas of contention figuring in the communicative realities in which language is used and the morality of action: the role of silence and the role of power and the lack thereof. It is proposed that action per se becomes problematic under practical manifestations of silence such as inarticulacy and ignorance, and that even when action is possible, deciding on what would constitute morally right action under such circumstances remains a question. (...)

    Kant's Transcendental Problem as a Linguistic Problem.K. Bagchi - 1971 - Philosophy 46 (178):341 - 345.
Kant's system of Transcendental Idealism may be regarded, in the contemporary philosophical perspective, as concerned with the problem whether any linguistic or conceptual system can be regarded as adequately explained in terms of the facts which the system organises. ‘ Transcendental ’ may be understood as what is ‘ non-reducible ’. Kant seems to hold that a linguistic scheme cannot be reduced to the facts which fall within the scheme, and thus it is transcendental to those facts. Formulated in such (...)

    Contract as Procedural Justice.Aditi Bagchi - 2016 - Jurisprudence 7 (1):47-84.
The premise of contract law is that the redistribution of entitlements that results from contract is justified by the process of agreement. But theories of contract differ importantly on how and when voluntary exchange justifies a resorting of entitlements. Pure theories regard the principles of contract as essentially derivative from some aspect of the principle of autonomy; contracting parties’ intent to assume legal obligation is in principle necessary and sufficient for its enforcement. Perfect theories do not view contract as self-justifying (...)

Recontextualizing Knowledge: An Epistemological Ambiguity.Jyoti Prakash Bagchi - 2002 - Journal of Human Values 8 (2):157-163.
The encounter of the cognitive apparatus with the phenomenal world had led to the emergence of independent thought processes either based on scientific method of enguiry or on meditative experiences. In the course of time these have developed into a systematized body of knowledge. They purport to provide peace and happiness, but when seduced by power a distorted value structure has been legitimized. The plethora of evidences suggest the 'self' has been incapacitated for long. The scientific experiences have been given (...)

    Correspondences: Jewish Mysticism, Indian Philosophies.Axel Randrup & Tista Bagchi - 2006 - Cogprints 4796.
The authors found correspondence of several significant traits of Jewish mysticism with traits of Buddhism and other systems of Indian religion and philosophy in the literature. Among the corresponding traits is the fundamental idea of emptiness or nothingness, shuunyataa in Sanskrit, ayin in Hebrew. Also corresponding are attempts to harmonise the idea and experience of emptiness with fullness, and with the experience of the secular world with its many things and concepts. They list eight significant traits of Jewish mysticism, which (...)

    Pursuit of Competitiveness: A Boon or Bane.P. K. Bagchi - 1997 - Journal of Human Values 3 (2):181-192.
The paper assesses India's need for being competitive in the global marketplace in order to secure its rightful position in the comity of developed nations. Competitiveness is meant to be the basis of sustainability of one's position in the global marketplace. The role of the government in a developing country like India in this process is stressed. Eight key areas of emphasis for achieving competitiveness have been elaborated—including that of the 'Vedic values system'. The paper concludes by asserting the need (...)

From Imperial to International Horizons: A Hermeneutic Study of Bengali Modernism.Kris Manjapra - 2011 - Modern Intellectual History 8 (2):327-359.
This essay provides a close study of the international horizons of Kallol, a Bengali literary journal, published in post-World War I Calcutta. It uncovers a historical pattern of Bengali intellectual life that marked the period from the 1870s to the 1920s, whereby an imperial imagination was transformed into an international one, as a generation of intellectuals born between 1885 and 1905 reinvented the political category of . Hermeneutics, as a philosophically informed study of how meaning is created through conversation, (...)

Immunity and Hyperimmunity for Sets of Minimal Indices.Frank Stephan & Jason Teutsch - 2008 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 49 (2):107-125.
We extend Meyer's 1972 investigation of sets of minimal indices. Blum showed that minimal index sets are immune, and we show that they are also immune against high levels of the arithmetic hierarchy. We give optimal immunity results for sets of minimal indices with respect to the arithmetic hierarchy, and we illustrate with an intuitive example that immunity is not simply a refinement of arithmetic complexity. Of particular note here are the fact that there are three minimal index sets located (...)
