Causal Factors of Corruption in Construction Project Management: An Overview.Emmanuel Kingsford Owusu, Albert P. C. Chan & Ming Shan - 2019 - Science and Engineering Ethics 25 (1):1-31.
The development of efficient and strategic anti-corruption measures can be better achieved if a deeper understanding and identification of the causes of corruption are established. Over the past years, many studies have been devoted to the research of corruption in construction management. This has resulted in a significant increase in the body of knowledge on the subject matter, including the causative factors triggering these corrupt practices. However, an apropos systematic assessment of both past and current studies on the subject matter (...)

Corporate Boards and Ownership Structure as Antecedents of Corporate Governance Disclosure in Saudi Arabian Publicly Listed Corporations.Yvonne Downs, Kwaku K. Opong, Collins G. Ntim & Waleed M. Al-Bassam - 2018 - Business and Society 57 (2):335-377.
This study investigates whether and to what extent publicly listed corporations voluntarily comply with and disclose recommended good corporate governance practices, and distinctively examines whether the observed cross-sectional differences in such CG disclosures can be explained by ownership and board mechanisms with specific focus on Saudi Arabia. The study’s results suggest that corporations with larger boards, a Big 4 auditor, higher government ownership, a CG committee, and higher institutional ownership disclose considerably more than those that are not. By contrast, the (...)

The Making of a Canon: Impact of the Old Testament Scriptures in the Christian Canon Development.Kwaku Boamah - 2018 - International Letters of Social and Humanistic Sciences 80:7-21.
Publication date: 31 January 2018 Source: Author: Kwaku Boamah The formation of the Christian canon was not a one day venture. Some scholars maintain it spanned from the first up to about the fourth centuries. This paper has three main parts: the first draws a linear process of canon generation, beginning from text to scripture and possibly becoming canonical. The second focuses on the creation of the Christian canon by exploring the stages and the implications of naming the canon (...)

An Empirical Study on Construction Process Corruption Susceptibility: A Vignette of International Expertise.Emmanuel Kingsford Owusu, Albert P. C. Chan, Ming Shan & Erika Pärn - 2020 - Science and Engineering Ethics 26 (1):325-349.
Construction process stages are argued to be vulnerable to the prevalence of corrupt practices. However, the validity of this argument has not been empirically explored in the extant literature of construction management. Therefore, this study examines the stages of the construction process susceptibility to corruption and its most prominent forms of corrupt activities. A total of forty-four project-related professionals were involved in an expert survey to assess such susceptibilities and the criticality of the identified corrupt activities at each stage. A (...)

Is There a Trade-Off Between Accrual-Based and Real Earnings Management Activities in the Presence of (fe) Male Auditors?Andrews Owusu, Alaa Mansour Zalata, Kamil Omoteso & Ahmed A. Elamer - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-22.
Prior research suggests that the presence of high-quality auditors constrains accrual-based earnings management, but it inadvertently leads to higher real activities manipulation. We investigate whether such trade-off exists between accrual-based and real earnings management activities in the presence of female or male auditors. We use a sample of UK firms for the period 2009 to 2016 and find that firms audited by female auditors do not resort to a higher-level real activities manipulation when their ability to engage in accruals management (...)

Indoor air pollution resulting from the combustion of solid fuels has been identified as a major health threat in the developing world. This study examines how the choice of cooking fuel, place of cooking and behavioural risk factors affect respiratory health infections in Accra, Ghana. About 65·3% of respondents use charcoal and 4·2% use unprocessed wood. A total of 241 (25·4%) respondents who cook had had respiratory health symptoms in the two weeks preceding the study. Household socioeconomic status and educational (...)

IntroductionThe abstracts of a conference are important for informing the participants about the results that are communicated. This paper aims to assess the reporting in the abstracts presented at the 5th African Network for Evidence-to-Action in Disability Conference in Ghana.MethodsThis descriptive study extracted information from the abstracts presented at the 5th AfriNEAD Conference. Three reviewers independently reviewed all the included abstracts using a predefined data extraction form. Descriptive statistics were (...)

Use and completion of partograph during labour is associated with a reduced incidence of birth asphyxia: a retrospective study at a peri-urban setting in Ghana.Reindolf Anokye, Enoch Acheampong, Judith Anokye, Amy Budu-Ainooson, Evelyn Amekudzie, Isaac Owusu, Naomi Gyamfi, Agyei Gyimah Akwasi & Wisdom Kwadwo Mprah - 2019 - Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition 38 (1):12.

A retrospective study design using a quantitative approach was adopted for the study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select a total of 200 folders of labouring women who were admitted and delivered (...)

Evaluation of Medication Errors Via a Computerized Physician Order Entry System in an Inpatient Renal Transplant Unit.K. Marfo, D. Garcia, S. Khalique, K. Berger & A. Lu - 2011 - Transplant Research and Risk Management 2011.
Kwaku Marfo, Danielle Garcia, Saira Khalique, Karen Berger, Amy LuMontefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, USABackground: Medication errors are a prime concern for all in healthcare. As such the use of information technologies in drug prescribing and administration has received considerable attention in recent years, with the hope of improving patient safety. Because of the complexity of drug regimens in renal transplant patients, occurrence of medication errors is inevitable even with a well adopted computerized physician order entering system. Our objective (...)
