Sharing Sustainability: How Values and Ethics Matter in Consumers’ Adoption of Public Bicycle-Sharing Scheme.Juelin Yin, Lixian Qian & Anusorn Singhapakdi - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 149 (2):313-332.
This study investigates the antecedents and mechanisms of consumers’ adoption of a public bicycle-sharing scheme as a form of shared sustainable consumption. Drawing on marketing ethics and sustainability literature, it argues that cultural and consumption values drive or deter the adoption of PBSS through the mediating mechanism of ethical evaluation. This study tests its hypotheses using a sample of 755 consumers from one of the largest PBSS programs in China. The results confirm the significance of collectivism, man–nature orientation, materialism, and (...)

Chaos-Based Application of a Novel Multistable 5D Memristive Hyperchaotic System with Coexisting Multiple Attractors.Fei Yu, Li Liu, Shuai Qian, Lixiang Li, Yuanyuan Huang, Changqiong Shi, Shuo Cai, Xianming Wu, Sichun Du & Qiuzhen Wan - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-19.
Novel memristive hyperchaotic system designs and their engineering applications have received considerable critical attention. In this paper, a novel multistable 5D memristive hyperchaotic system and its application are introduced. The interesting aspect of this chaotic system is that it has different types of coexisting attractors, chaos, hyperchaos, periods, and limit cycles. First, a novel 5D memristive hyperchaotic system is proposed by introducing a flux-controlled memristor with quadratic nonlinearity into an existing 4D four-wing chaotic system as a feedback term. Then, the (...)

Corporate Philanthropy, Ownership Type, and Financial Transparency.Cuili Qian, Xinzi Gao & Albert Tsang - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 130 (4):851-867.
Drawing on stakeholder theory and the concept of enlightened self-interest, we argue that firms that actively engage in corporate philanthropic giving also tend to demonstrate greater concern for investors’ interests by providing more transparent financial information and avoiding corporate misconduct. Moreover, the relationships between corporate giving, financial information transparency, and corporate misconduct vary significantly according to the firm’s ownership type, which affects the fundamental motivations for corporate philanthropy. In a sample of Chinese publicly listed firms from the 2003–2009 period, we (...)

Delineating Mixed Urban “Jobs-Housing” Patterns at a Fine Scale by Using High Spatial Resolution Remote-Sensing Imagery.Yao Yao, Chen Qian, Ye Hong, Qingfeng Guan, Jingmin Chen, Liangyang Dai, Zhangwei Jiang & Xun Liang - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-13.
The spatial distribution pattern of jobs and housing plays a vital role in urban planning and traffic construction. However, obtaining the jobs-housing distribution at a fine scale presents difficulties due to a lack of social media data and useful models. With user data acquired from a location-based service provider in China, this study employs a deep bag-of-features network to classify remote-sensing images into various jobs-housing types. Considering Wuhan, one of the fastest developing cities in China, as a case study area, (...)

A Study on Lump and Interaction Solutions to a -Dimensional Soliton Equation.Xi-Zhong Liu, Zhi-Mei Lou, Xian-Min Qian & Lamine Thiam - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-12.
Based on bilinear formulation of a -dimensional soliton equation, lump solution and related interaction solutions are investigated. The lump solutions of the soliton equation are classified into three cases with nonsingularity conditions being given. The interaction solutions between lump and a stripe soliton are obtained in eight cases, which have interesting fusing and fission behaviors with changing time. The interaction solutions of the soliton equation between a lump and a resonant pair of stripe solitons are also given, and we find (...)

A CEEMDAN and XGBOOST-Based Approach to Forecast Crude Oil Prices.Yingrui Zhou, Taiyong Li, Jiayi Shi & Zijie Qian - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-15.
Crude oil is one of the most important types of energy for the global economy, and hence it is very attractive to understand the movement of crude oil prices. However, the sequences of crude oil prices usually show some characteristics of nonstationarity and nonlinearity, making it very challenging for accurate forecasting crude oil prices. To cope with this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel approach that integrates complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise and extreme gradient boosting, (...)

    Cue Effectiveness in Communicatively Efficient Discourse Production.Ting Qian & T. Florian Jaeger - 2012 - Cognitive Science 36 (7):1312-1336.
Recent years have seen a surge in accounts motivated by information theory that consider language production to be partially driven by a preference for communicative efficiency. Evidence from discourse production (i.e., production beyond the sentence level) has been argued to suggest that speakers distribute information across discourse so as to hold the conditional per-word entropy associated with each word constant, which would facilitate efficient information transfer (Genzel & Charniak, 2002). This hypothesis implies that the conditional (contextualized) probabilities of linguistic units (...)

Precision Security: Integrating Video Surveillance with Surrounding Environment Changes.Wenfeng Wang, Xi Chen, Guiwei Zhang, Jing Qian, Peng Wei, Boqian Wu & Hongwei Zheng - 2018 - Complexity 2018:1-10.
Video surveillance plays a vital role in maintaining the social security although, until now, large uncertainty still exists in danger understanding and recognition, which can be partly attributed to intractable environment changes in the backgrounds. This article presents a brain-inspired computing of attention value of surrounding environment changes with a processes-based cognition model by introducing a ratio valueλof EC-implications within considered periods. Theoretical models for computation of warning level of EC-implications to the universal video recognition efficiency are further established. Imbedding (...)

Evolutionary Dendritic Neural Model for Classification Problems.Xiaoxiao Qian, Cheng Tang, Yuki Todo, Qiuzhen Lin & Junkai Ji - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-13.
In this paper, an evolutionary dendritic neuron model is proposed to solve classification problems. It utilizes synapses and dendritic branches to implement the nonlinear computation. Distinct from the classical dendritic neuron model trained by the backpropagation algorithm, the proposed EDNM is trained by a metaheuristic cuckoo search algorithm instead, which has been regarded as a global searching algorithm. CS algorithm enables EDNM to avoid several disadvantages, such as slow convergence, trapping into local minimum, and being sensitive to initial values. To (...)

The topics of memristive system and synchronization are two hot fields of research in nonlinear dynamics. In this paper, we introduce a memristor-based chaotic system with no equilibrium. It is found that the memristor-based system under investigation exhibits fruitful dynamic behaviors such as coexisting bifurcation, multistability, transient chaos, and transient quasiperiod. Thus, it is difficult to reproduce the accurate dynamics of the system, which is highly advantageous in encryption and communication. Then, a simple intermittent control scheme with adaptive mechanism is (...)

Extracting horizons from a seismic image has been playing an important role in seismic interpretation. However, how to fully use global-level information contained in the seismic images such as the order of horizon sequences is not well-studied in existing works. To address this issue, we have developed a novel method based on a directed and colored graph, which encodes effective context information for horizon extraction. Following the commonly used framework, which generates horizon patches and then groups them into horizons, we (...)

Conventional optimization methods are not efficient enough to solve many of the naturally complicated optimization problems. Thus, inspired by nature, metaheuristic algorithms can be utilized as a new kind of problem solvers in solution to these types of optimization problems. In this paper, an optimization algorithm is proposed which is capable of finding the expected quality of different locations and also tuning its exploration-exploitation dilemma to the location of an individual. A novel particle swarm optimization algorithm is presented which implements (...)

Timers and sensors are common devices that make our daily life safer, more convenient, and more efficient. In a cellular context, they arguably play an even more crucial role as they ensure the survival of cells in the presence of various extrinsic and intrinsic stresses. Biological timers and sensors generate distinct signaling profiles, enabling them to produce different types of cellular responses. Recent data suggest that they can work together to guarantee correct timing and responsiveness. By exploring examples of cellular (...)
